Default for those getting a tax refund...

Are you getting more, less or about the same as last year?

We are actually getting more. I checked and rechecked and the numbers are right so at least we have that going in our favor!

I'm getting more. They owe me $69. Last year, I owed $2. I try to keep my money and not get a refund at the end of the year...

I usually pay, but this year I'm getting a refund, a little over $200. After I balanced the small state refund I was owed against the state sales tax I have to pay on internet purchases, I ended up owning them $4.

Quite a bit more. We had a baby so that's 1300 right there. We also paid a considerable amount toward tuition.

Next year we should be down quite a bit because I doubled my exemptions.

we're getting a bit more, but only because DH made a little less than usual last year and we qualified for a few more credits than usual.

We are getting a huge refund. I made my DH double his exemptions for the rest of this year. I would rather see that money each month rather then giving the gov't an interest free loan. I will try to save at least half of the extra money each month to pad our savings cushion. As I posted recently, I have decided to stop the snowball payments until I get some savings built-up. DH's job seems secure for the moment but we all know how fast things are changing. I will still make a little over the minimum payments on the cc's but stop the huge payment I was making. Just until this economic recession evens out a bit. I am also hording our tax return to. I will be able to sleep better knowing we have some money in the bank!

We earned less last year than the previous year so we will get more from federal, about the same from state, city and school are about the same.

We weren't sure how things were going to go, since DH was on unemployment for 6 weeks (and we didn't have them tax it), plus I wasn't working, so we had him set the exemptions low. It was a little too low and now we are getting a HUGE refund from both state and federal!

He changed his exemptions this past monday, so that money will be coming to us instead of the gov't and I can put it directly in savings!

We are getting more. Our picture changed radically in 2008 with the purchase of an investment property. I need to adjust my W4, but its tough to know how much because I have no idea what 2009 taxes will be like either.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Less. I hate giving the government an interest-free loan, but there were some circumstances this year that made it tough for us to gauge just how much we should have taken out.
