Treasure Hunt
Yesterday we were able to pick up the keys to the 'new to us' house and start cleaning. Of course I was jealous because I had to go to school and that would Wendell to have all the fun.
When I finally go over there he told me to go look in the closet. I did and found a wonderful old crock-type bowl. I have wanted one of these for ever but would never pay the price they ask for them in the antique shops. We found some boxes upstairs in a closet that had these boxes in it. Each box had an old hat in them that looked practically new. Then on the back porch, an old straight razor in the box.
There is so much stuff. I found three old rolls of waxed paper. One had the price of .29 written in on it. Tons of old canning jars.
I'm so happy I have a five and 1/2 day weekend this week. We are going to spend all the time we can over there to get things ready to move in. I have a friend coming over to help me paint a few of the rooms which will be a great help. I'm hoping that we will be able to start moving things over there directly next week.
Its so nice to have something to look forward too!

How cool. Everytime I move into a house, people just leave junk...seriously...junk.
Of course, the last house we sold, during the final walk through, the realtor for the people buying the house made the comment that it was the cleanest house she had ever been in that was changing hands.
Maybe you will find a priceless work of art.

I found a rocking chair in the attic of my first house. We joked around that they must have kept grandma up there.
The last apartment I rented, the guy (I am assuming) who had it before me left a large plastic football-shaped chip and dip tray FULL of coins. There was close to $50 in there. I asked the manager about it and hung on to it for several months, and he never reclaimed it, so woo hoo - found money! (The chip tray found its way to the dumpster.)DH aka Mad Hen

I am so, so, so happy that you guys were able to find a place! And the best part is, the house sounds amazing! When my parents bought their farm 15 years ago, the owners just up and left all the junk in the barns. I was 14 or 15 then, and I absolutely HATED being forced by my parents to clean out the barn. These days, I would have so much fun doing it, since there was so much cool stuff in there!
Glad you found a great house! I hope you guys can get the rooms painted and move stuff in. And hooray for the 5 day weekend to get stuff done!
