Smile No more walmart for me

Okay...here is the scoop on this Walmart thing. Most people believe that they have the lowest prices on most everything. Well, this week I took it upon myself to shop at 3 other grocery stores and guess what...EVERYTHING I BOUGHT WAS CHEAPER THAN WALMART!! I took my receipts from the three stores I shopped, and I compared all items to those in walmart... I would have spent almost $37.00 more in comparison...so beware...just because they used to always have the lowest, the economy has gotten where the other stores are doing their best to be competitive as well as beat Walmarts prices!!

I noticed that too the other day. I had a gift card so I figured I would stock up on a few things. I found that alot of the prices could be beat at superstore. They still have some good deals you just have to watch the prices.

It's not always the cheapest here (so we get those items elsewhere), but it is the cheapest on most things...

Glad you found some great bargains!!

I learned that lesson a long time ago! Plus the other stores don't give me a problem w/coupons. I couldn't believe when my DH paid $6.78 for a 1lb. pkge of Polly-O mozzarella cheese there. At Publix regular price is $5. Goes on sale 2 for $6.

WalMart's will price match, but not on BOGOs which is where I get my best coupon deals from. So now I only ask hubby to stop in for the couple of things I can't get at the other grocers.

    So I'm with you JinglebellsMom!

I always felt they were a little higher for the longest time. There are a few things, not many, they may be a little bit cheaper. It's not worth it for me to go there. I can go to other stores and get it cheaper with my coupons or without my coupons.

WEll,I think personally that wal-mart is over crowded so I don't go there for grocery shopping anyways. BUt you're right they are getting more and more higher as the economy is doing worse.

Walmart is definitely the cheapest on everyday prices in my area. I shop the other two stores for their sales items or price match their ads at Walmart. Kroger is the highest on everyday prices on things I buy in my area.

In this economy it's really smart to check out prices at all the stores in your area for the best deal though! I've noticed that the Dollar General that I used to buy alot of items from has raised their prices until it's not worth it to shop there for certain things anymore!

That's true you really have to watch the prices and be prudent at what you buy at Walmart!

I would have thought that wal-marts prices were pretty similair everywhere, but now I'm wondering if they differ.

I stopped shopping at Wal-mart as my 2008 resolution (it's the only resolution that I have ever kept in my life). I have found in the past year and a few months, that shopping sales at the regular supermarkets and then getting the basics at Aldi's, I save a TON over what I would have paid at Wal-mart.

I think since Wal-mart does their "rollback" crap, and rolls things back .10 or .20 cents...they don't have any REAL sales!~ Unlike the grocery stores here, that have real sales and mark ground beef down to $1.49 to get people in the door!

And I certainly haven't missed the overcrowding at our Wal-mart either! When I set out, I didn't think I could go a whole year, becuase we bought everything at Wal-mart. But honestly, I haven't missed it at all! I have been able to get everything I need from other locally owned stores instead!

I had a similar experience when I created my price book last spring. I found that I could get nearly everything cheaper by shopping sales, Aldi, and our salvage grocery store. In the beginning I would go to Wal-mart for the few things I couldn't at other places but now I have found similar items for the same or lower prices at other stores, like Dollar General, K-mart, and Big Lots so now I can completely avoid the crowds, the headache inducing lights, and the business practices of Wal-mart. I am glad its there because it is a source of employment for a lot of people but I'm also glad to drive on by.

We figured this out several years ago. There is very, very little we go to Wal-Mart for anymore. By watching sales, we do better shopping elsewhere. We also like being able to go to our local Ace Hardware and talk to people who are actually able to help us, and our local grocery stores where we're greeted by name by the owners and where our business is appreciated, instead of being treated like just one of the herd.

There was a time that bought nearly everything at walmart. Now, not so much. I do go for fabric and odds and ends but since Aldi's opened across the street from walmart I pretty much spend about 90% of my grocery money at Aldi's. I find the walmart prices to be higher.

this isnt the first time i've heard this either!
ok, i did a little investigation myself too & found pretty much the same (on the types of things i purchase).
but many of the other "chain" types are upping their prices too!

the local aldi's i cant shop at - the produce is almost always rotten or nearly rotten. so i shop at one that's a little pricier than it but still a discounter where i'm guaranteed fresh produce.

it's hit or miss anymore... i check the local circulars weekly to find out where is what i need for the best price.
    it's everywhere, i'm afraid.
