Stimulating the economy...
Well we have definitely done our part to help stimulate the economy...LOL (have to laugh or I'd cry). My dh decided he had to have a new TV (which we went round & round about)...I told him I would put $500 towards the TV if he wanted to get it in January and $1000 towards it if he'd wait until February.
Saved myself $500 bucks, cuz he couldn't wait until this month
! So we went shopping (after much research) and decided on a 46" LCD TV (Samsung LN46A650) through Sears. It wasn't in stock, so they had to order it with delivery on February 11th (saved myself $500 & he still had to wait until February to get it LOL).
We saved $600 off the cost of the TV and we get a $200 gift card for NFL.com (which I get). I decided to be a sweetheart and I told him I'd pay for the TV stand & DVD rack (needed both since entertainment center was going) if he'd throw in $100. Got both through Amazon.com for $375.12 (was $425.12, but I had a $50 amazon code) and there was free shipping on both pieces!
He is sooooo spoiled, but I love him any way!"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

don't you gotta love them....lol.....they get big-screen tv's and we get blenders (and somehow we are both 'equally' excited about it....)
looks like you did some great juggling to make it all work...good job!
now just think of the money you can save when he sits home 'glued' to it....haha...

Oh my dh would be SO jealous LOL! We need a new tv because the picture on the one we have is blurry and getting worse every day. We went looking at flat screens a couple of weeks ago because he is determined to have one. I put my foot down and told him NO! We needed that money to pay bills and there will be no new tv until the house payment is caught up and I get back to work!
I plan to surprise him with a new one in April. But I will pick it out and it won't be a big one like he wants. He's getting a 27" and he can make do LOL!
Congrats on your new tv and enjoy it!!Last edited by WV_mom_of2; 02-13-2009 at 11:27 AM.

i also am stimulating the economy in a big way....lol dh is getting his samsung 40something flatscreen tv tomorrow am. you can't wipe the drool off of his face today!!! last 2 years we were very frugal....not sure of how bad off we would be with retiring.....all our ducks are in a row now....not as bad as we thought. thank god!
our tv we have has a beautiful picture, and nothing wrong with it. it is just a guy thing. i was so worn down with his d**m crying about it. i think it will be worth the not hearing about it anymore. am i excited? i could care less. i just couldn't get rid of the one we have. so now i will have one here in the den. what gene do men have that makes the size of a tv so important??? well, i am glad that he will be happy!!

If you're comfortable buying without being able to actually look at a TV first, then try overstock.com or buy.com . We've had good luck finding reasonable prices both places.

I've done my part too. This is the most expensive week I have had a very, very, extremely very long time. New mattress set, new bedding (the old wouldn't fit), and with less excuse, some miscellanea that just fell decidedly onto the "wants" side of the ledger, though not much of those. Oh, and some eating out too because I was busy between work and the shopping.
I don't regret a penny of it, but someone else will have to pick up the slack and stimulate the economy next week. I have no further stimulus package to offer.Donna

We got a BIG flat screen almost 3 yrs ago.
It now hangs in the living room .....and won't turn on.
Too big for me to take anywhere to get it fixed.
Good thing I talked him out of getting rid of the old tv.
Probably almost 20 yrs old and still going strong.
He was such a whiner till he got that big tv...I could not talk
him out of it. And I ended up paying for it ( I sold my 68 firebird ), so I won't let him get rid of it. $ 1200 worth of tv and someday maybe it will get fixed......sigh....--------My signature--------
The economy is now uncharted waters... grab a oar and start rowing. ~~
Put the frog in pot, turn up the heat real slow, and the frog doesn't hop out. And by the time he realizes, he should , it's too late... think about it.

I actually think this is kinda good. Those of us who are inherently frugal by nature will have to be the ones to "stimulate" the economy..
Everyone else is too broke.
As a woman..I'm embarassed..I'm the one who wants the big, shiny, flat-screen TV. Oh yeah..sewing and cooking programs where I can actually see what they are doing!
And I want the one that I can plug my computer into too! Yeah, bejeweled..so big you'll think the gems might crush you..bwahaahaa!
With the USB port so I can use it to play my photos on ...oh yeah baby!
Drool Drool..

I feel like I'm stimulating the economy left and right this month.
I took my sewing machine in to get a tune up.
We are going to the circus. We go as a family when one of our children is in second grade. This is the year. The last time we went Daughter was to young to remember it.
Daughter wants to see her first play (high school play). She "met" the characters at a girl scout meeting and wants to go now. So we are going today- the boys might join us maybe not. We will see.Last edited by imagine; 02-14-2009 at 01:42 PM.

Okay now I don't feel so bad for buying two new memory foam pillows for our new bed yesterday! Cost $148 and change for both.
DH wants a newer, bigger flat screen TV too. Even though there's nothing wrong with the 27" flat screen tv we have right now. It must be something genetic in the Y chromosone.

“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily

I've done bought a new 5 burner gas stove and a new fridge. Eyeballing a new stainless inside dishwasher lol
I also get my hair cut and colored at a local salon ( no chain store)
I plan on getting new eye glasses at a local Eye Doctor
We go out for breakfast once a week at a local restaurant
Hubby ran over some debris after the 70mph winds that hit, so he had one tire go flat and one going flat so he bought 4 new tires for the big 4X4. I need more storage in my kitchen so we're checking out prices on cabinets.
I think we're definitely doing our part to stimulate this country's economy!
