    Default Shaking my head

The other day, dd9 wanted to get a hot drink while we were out. I told her she needed to use her money, she said fine.

We get to the counter, she orders her hot smoothie and pays. the clerk goes to get it, and it's not working, offers her a cappuccino instead. I told her this is a 9yo! So NO, a cappuccino was not a suitable alternative. DD says she's take a hot chocolate. It was 39˘ less. The lady gives her the hot chocolate and says next. I said you owe her 39˘ + gst. She stared at me like I"d grown horns"You want your money back". I told her absolutely, I told her how much my daughter was owed. ANd made sure to count it to dd9 to see that she got her money back.

Do I want my money back??? I should have demanded to speak to the manager. Hullo???

I don't know why people think anything under a dollar doesn't count.

If you saved a dollar a day all year..that's $365! How many days of work is that?

UGH!!! I would have smacked her across the counter! No not really but I would have made the comment like.... "a nine year old shouldn't be expected to leave you a tip!" Wow, some people!

I would have talked to a manager. That's just dumb! If your not getting what you paid for, then you should get your money back!

We were in a restaurant a few months back and DS ordered a hot dog with fries. We get our food and we are all eating. He took one bite of his hot dog and ate all of his fries. So, here I am lecturing him about eating his whole meal and he tells me he doesn't like his hot dog. Fine...but really, what 5 year old doesn't like a hot dog? So, I take a bite and it is rancid! It was spoiled and disgusting!

So, the waitress was really nice about it, and got him something else to eat. We get our bill and the hot dog is on it...AND the replacement meal! I went ballistic on the manager! I told him that I was not paying for rancid food that they had served to my son, and if he wanted to make a stink about it, I would be back in an hour with the health department. Then I lectured him about food safety...anyhoo, he finally comped both meals for my son. I really wouldn't have minded paying for the meal that he ate, but I was NOT paying for something that was unsuitable for human consumption!

I swear, sometimes people are just strange! Glad your daughter was able to get her money back! It's a good lesson for her to learn at a young age. I know so many people who are too timid (even as adults) to stand up for themselves and speak up when something like that happens!

Good for you! It was probably that she couldn't make the change in her head, you think?

DH went to our local Dunkin' and they shorted him .05 ...he was in a hurry and didn't push it, but it occurred to us that it'd be a great way to make "tips" if you don't give the odd nickel or .03 back, so we COUNT our change every time we're in there!

Good for you again says I!

It was the fact that she was shocked we wanted that money back.

I wish I'd caught her name, and I'd leave a note for the manager. I wasn't impressed.

Whether she can make change or not, the till is capable of doing a return, and then the sale, it would show her the difference.

Good for you and good for your dd too! You taught your dd a valuable lesson in sticking up for herself when a mistake has been made. Lessons like that one can last a life time.

Actually, IMO, the short changing happens A LOT these days - convenience stores, restaurants, you name it. Good that you stood up for your daughter and shame on that clerk.

I bought a bunch of flannel last week for a rag quilt. 10 pieces....all 5/8yd. When I got home and laid it all out...4 pieces were short. She had cut them at 1/2 yd, not 5/8. Anyway...I miscalculated and needed more fabric so I had to go back anyway. I took the fabric and the reciept and the cutting receipt so I could get credit. OMG!!! It took 3 people almost 1/2 hour to figure out how to give me credit for my fabric. And my other gripe....why did they ever stop using fabric measuring meters??? You never had a mistake when measuring fabric with those! I cannot tell you how many times I've been shorted fabric by clerks who just aren't paying attention.
And yeah...it was only about 3.00 worth of credit, but really....it's just aggrivating!

Seriously, people have really gotten careless. A few weeks ago I went with some girl friends for a drink. My bill was $8.95 and I put a $20 in the wallet for the waiter. I waited and wait. He came back, "Oh, I thought you'd put in a $10 and the rest was for me". First of all, they shouldn't assume that MY change is a tip. Secondly, they really need to pay attention to cash sales.

I've had that happen when I've bought coffee. If it's just a little bit of change they'll just keep it; when I ask for the change they also look at me like I'm so beastly creature taking away what's due to them. What gets me is that at this same place they charge 5 cents for an extra cup- I've told them that I'm sure all those extra cups have been more than paid for by all those who've been paying extra.

I didn't realize tips were needed for the clerk at the Dunkin' Donuts drive thru.

Any place where the employees take it upon themselves to decide how WE should spend OUR money, regardless how small the amount, does not get our business, and we make darn sure management knows why.
