Default i only tried to save $10...

so my color cartridge on my puter was out of ink...i checked the prices of the cartridges and they were $25-35 bucks ...but i could get a 're-fill' kit for $14.... guess which one i chose....guess how much that $14 decision ending up costing me....

so i give the refill kit and cartridge to the 'man' of the house and send him out in the garage last night...(thank god for that one as you'll see in a minute) and i go inside to make dinner.... (it was warmed-up leftovers...took all of 10 mins to prepare)...so i open the door to the garage to yell out to dh to come in and i see him standing there 'covered' in blue ink...well standing there is a bit of an understatement....he is wiping it off the walls, the workbench, his tv....

"what on earth happened out here"? i ask....thru his grumbles, clinched teeth all i can make out is that 'the damn thing doesn't work right)...obviously....that or HE didn't know what he was doing...(i didn't think now was the time to bring that one up...lol)...

so he managed to ruin a new pair of $30 jeans, a $25 sweatshirt, his socks (had no shoes on) and his hands are stained a dark blue and we are going on vacation today....(we tried just about chemical known to man to get it off...its on for good...) and we are now out the price of the $14 kit coz i have to buy a new cart too ($25) coz he shot the blue ink in all the holes....

so my adventure ends up costing me $94....ugh....

can you give me some pointers then....dh claims he just tried to insert the 'plunger' into the hole but it shot out all around where the plunger attaches to the bottle on ink... it came with all these parts (ball bearings, little wire looking things and other stuff in the baggie with the plungers but dh said 'we don't need that stuff...that's for something else'...i'm thinking he was wrong....

have you tried goo gone? I doubt it will work on the clothes but it got ink off my walls last night, it might at least keep him from having blue hands on vacation.

Hair spray, (Aqua Net) should get the ink out of the clothes. Try lighter fluid on the hands.

i had this generic 'goo gone' stuff that i put all over them and it said to let them sit as long as possible...so this morning i threw them in with the 'garage towels' coz i don't want it in the good laundry.... once we go thru that cycle then i will wash them regularly and see what happens... ugh... they don't go in the dryer...so i will try the hairspray too...

i will have him try the lighter fluid...(i personally think it's kinda funny...but i am MEAN like that)....i should have never left him alone out there...i'm the handy one in the family...(it really was priceless to open the door and see him standing there covered in it...'specially after i had just read the box to him...'super easy, fast and no mess'....

Oh no!!! I could just picture him standing there with a look of shock on his face! It sounds like the hole where the plunger goes in was plugged. If I were you, I would read the instructions! Men never do and that is what happens when they don't and then it is always the products fault!

yea well that's the sad part...i did read the instructions and they made no sense (they didn't even mention all the x-tra parts that came with the plungers)...why do you think i gave it to dh...hahaha....i just never figured he would get that 'crazy' trying to do it....

i'm sure there is this super easy way of doing it...we just haven't figured it out yet....

I never had luck with the refills so I don't even try anymore.

I hope you get all the ink out!

Rubbing alcohol removes me ink from walls and hard surfaces...

The kit comes with extra parts for different cartridges. I also bought this stupd refill kit and it SUCKS!!! It made a mess when I was doing it and then they didn't work. So $30. for the refills and then I bought new cartridges. For all that I could have bought a WHOLE new printer.

I hope you took a picture for posterity LOL! I'm sorry, but your description of him standing out in your garage was just too funny. Sometimes trying to save a few bucks can end up costing us big time. I personally have never had any luck with the refill kits or the recycled cartridges you can buy for cheaper. I have ruined two printers using both of these tactics.

I get my cartidges through Office Max, they have a rewards program and you can turn in empty cartridges for credit of $3 each, up to a max of 10 per week. Once I get my credits built up I use them to purchase my ink and the process starts all over again.

ugh....you know the WORST part....i don't even print in color...the cart has been out of ink for 5 yrs....i only print in black but the printer will no longer allow me to print at all unless i put a full color cart in there (i went round and round with the hp people...how come i could print for 5 yrs without the color being filled)...of course got no REAL answers....so this is all JUST so i can print in BLACK.... I don't want the stupid color anyway!!!!......

My DH refuses to try and refill our cartridges, sometimes I think he's nutz, but maybe not?

I don't know if it's true in your area, but last week's Staples ad here said they were taking all kinds of cartridges back for $3 in savings rewards (no store checks like before). They stopped taking all kinds of cartridges a while ago, and were only taking 2 or 3 kinds. I guess they're trying to get people into the store? I'm not sure if that's useful, or not, but maybe you can get $3 for the dead cartridge?

yea i might as well... i think he has pretty much 'ruined' it....i just wish i knew how to make the kit work coz i have all this ink and a cart....it's worth a try to see if it will still work before i throw in the towel and buy a new one (listen to me....this is how this all started...some of us will NEVER learn)....but its here darnit...!! i am going to ask around here and see if i know anyone that fills their own and how they do it...what have i got to lose at this point...(except some more clothes...lol)....
