Call me old fashioned......
or a prude. Call me what you want. I picked up the newspaper yesterday and there was a picture of our local girls basketball team. It seems that while the opposing team was doing introductions the home team and fans sat in the bleachers with newspapers i front of their faces and pretended to read. The caption read. "Interested..nah!" Now myself I find that rude and just plain ignorant. Like I said I may be old fashioned but whe I was in school and even my kid, if we had done that we would have been escorted out and not allowed back. Not to mention expelled. The other team sat there and listened to the introductions why should the home team not do the same. JMHO

For the students to do it would be a lapse of judgement; not appropriate but sadly not uncommon anymore. Particularly in that age group.
For the adults to participate is just inexcusable. When I was in high school, that sort of behavior would get you banned from attending games. Not expelled but certainly there would have been disciplinary action.
But I can't say I'm surprised to hear of it happening.

This has been going on for years. When I was about 11 or 12 my dad took us to see a West Virginia University basketball game. All the college kids from WVU and most of the fans did this exact same thing when they introduced the other team. It's not something I would want my kids to do though as I agree it's rude.

Thank you for posting this. Many young kids today and even adults seem to have lost respect for each other and in some cases even themselves and it is saddening and disgusting to see how some people act now a days. But it certainly is nice to see some kids and people still have heart, respect, and pride in themselves and each other. That young man lost someone great in his life, but he ended up gaining so many more that cared about him.

Sadly this is probably more common than we like to believe. kids and even adults are so rude anymore. My boys play youth fotball and we had some very rude opponents. There is one team we play...that last season 2007 they literally started a riot after the game...the players and coaches began rushing our boys and then all of the parents jumped out of the stands and headed toward us...this was for kids 12-14! This years game...there was a sheriff on site for the ENTIRE game. they still shouted obsenities the entire game!
A tissue is definetly needed!! Thank you for sharing that! I love stories like that!

It's not just sports. At the last recital I was shocked at how many kids moved around when someone else was performing. If you are next on the program, you should have moved during the ending applause for the person 2 before you. Not while the person just before you is performing. Bad enough it's me and not the teacher explaining this, but not one other parent or teacher seemed to know or care about that little niceness.
I did get an
"I knooo-owww" when I reminded her.
