Hi
I joined FV today after clicking on a link from the beekman1802 website. This is the first time I have joined something like this, but it seemed like it really fit where I am in my life right now...
I split my time between my fiance's home in Sacramento and my job here in Seattle. This alone is an expense of time and money that I can't wait to end- but I am in the military and he has a good job down there. It's not permanent and it seems like the best thing for now.
I am trying to become a more responsible spender- previously I racked up a bit of credit card debt. Although I am well on my way to paying it off, I still have student loans. Part of me feels guilty about entering into my marriage with the credit card debt, especially. So I have been working really hard to pay that off while also balancing the cost of the wedding.
I am hoping that I will feel better and more proud of my not spending ways. Right now it just feels really hard. It seemed like everyone on the website was really proud and honest about their struggles and I look forward to reading more.

Hi, Danaw, and
to the Village!
Being frugal is, IMHO, an acquired taste for many of us. It usually does get easier and more fun as time goes on!
Part of the reason it is hard is because it's a change, and it starts out feeling like we're depriving ourselves (most worthwhile changes do!). I've found that it helps to change the way you think about money, not just the way you spend it! There are also ways to save money and still not feel deprived--in looking through posts, I'm sure you'll find plenty of tips from the veteran villagers here!
Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy it here!

" May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. One of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have."
