Something Weird Happened at Walmart

I was at Walmart yesterday and saw a cart of marked-down stuff. The saleslady told me that there were some good buys in the cart. They had really cute stocking cap and gloves sets marked for 50c for the set. I thought, "Not bad deal!" To get both the cap and gloves was a bargain. So I picked up several sets to give to grandkids and as gifts to other children.

When I got to the cash register, the checker ran some of them through the scanner. No problem. Then one of the sets didn't ring up. He tried again. Nothing. Then he punched in the number on the tag, looked puzzled and then put the hat/glove set under the counter. I asked him what was wrong. He said he wasn't allowed to sell it to me. I asked why. He said that he could not tell me, but that it was not allowed.

Strange.........
Have you ever had anything strange like that happen? Just something that seemed to innocent, so normal, and then the weird sets in?

I wonder if it was a similar set, but not the exact PLU# that was actually on sale.

They might have put it under the counter because if you found it with the others they'd HAVE to sell it to you for the sale price.

Yes, weird things have happened to me at Walmart, and that's one of the reasons I avoid it at all costs now.

I saw some cloth bags for really cheap at a store once, bought them, then called another store to see if they had any more in stock. The person who helped me said she found some and would set them aside for me. When I got to the store to get them she said they were gone. HUH? Funny, that I noticed that she had them under a counter, most likely for her own needs. Grrrr.

That is weird, that never happens. I worked at walmart before, usually the csm or department manager is called if for some reason the item was not on file, and thats what sounds like happened....i dunno.

The set was identical to the others that they sold me, and had the same mark-down tag on it. I didn't look at the numbers, so they might have been different. I usually never really look at those.

It could of been a recalled item. Alot of times it just says that it can't be sold. So the cashiers dont know why.

I would have raised a stink! That is not right. Even if they weren't on sale he could have told you politely and asked if you wanted them at regular price. That's just downright wrong.

I was guessing it could be a recalled item with a certain PLU number. Even if it looked the same, it might have one tiny difference. The same thing happened with the Kashi granola bars with peanut butter. If people had them in their cart when they got pulled from the shelves, the cashiers still couldn't sell them. They had the PLU flagged.

Have to agree, the item was probably recalled for whatever reason. Sorry that happened to you...That stinks.

That IS weird! Couldn't hurt to call the manager and ask why, so you'll know for next time if it were to happen again.

When I was working at Bath and Body Works, when things were out of season they would be "Marked Out Of Stock." The plu would still ring up, but it would only be $0.01. We were not allowed to sell those because they are already marked out of the store's inventory.

*edited to add* We had to throw these items away! UGH what a waste.

Wow.... the stuff that I don't know......

I was just wondering on this since I am a fairly harmless looking middle aged woman, and I wasn't buying anything to manufacture meth or dangerous knives and firearms, etc. I just wanted to buy a child's stocking cap and gloves that had been marked down to 50c and had been pointed out to me by the sales person. I had no idea all the rest of this drama happens in retail! Thanks for your answers!

Something similar to me happened at Wal-Mart once when I was trying to buy some OTC cough meds. The checker scanned it and then said, "I'm sorry, I can't sell this to you." It was right before they put a lot of meds behind the pharmacist's counter because people were buying up huge quantities for making meth.
