Greetings From Mars!
Hi, Everybody!
I am TheMartianChick and I am so glad that I found FrugalVillage a couple of days ago. My family and I are trying to pay off debt and find ways to live a more frugal and eco-friendly lifestyle. Though we live in a city, we are planning to raise chickens, vegetables, fruit and tilapia fish in an effort to be more self-sufficient. This will allow us to have the organic food that we like without paying the ridiculous prices at the grocery store. We will be treating our place like an urban homestead.
We had planned to buy a farm and move this year but with an uncertain economy and retirement accounts tanking, we have decided to postpone the move and get ourselves in a better financial position. (The idea of taking on another mortgage is really scary!) Though we both have decent jobs, my husband's is in the manufacturing industry and things aren't looking that great right now.
Anyway, I am a self-proclaimed coupon queen
and bargain shopper and really look forward to learning from all of the frugal folks here!

Wow! I didn't expect to get replies so quickly! I really appreciate the welcome.
I will definitely post about tilapia and other topics that I have experience in or that I have studied. I am a small business consultant by trade and spend a great deal of time writing business plans, so I have studied a lot of different topics. I also have a part time position where I work from home doing phone work for an online company. I am really counting on my part time job to help me to pay down the debt that you see in my signature. Although it probably looks pretty bad, the $23000 credit card bill wasn't from a shopping spree...I bought a rental property with the money and never got a chance to refinance it before the economy tanked! I am still looking around for a lender to do the refinance, but I would rather find a way to just pay it off, since it is at 0 percent interest.

Thanks for the welcome, Laurie! Florida is one of our favorite vacation places. Though we've been to Clearwater before, we never saw that street sign. We probably would have done the typical tourist thing and taken a picture of it!
We refer to ourselves as Martians because so many people treat us as though we're from another planet when we mention that our dream lifestyle is to live on a farm and live a more laid back and natural lifestyle. They don't "get" that we don't need or want all of the things that go along with living in a city. We are certain that we will achieve our dreams one way or another.

Wow! I've probably studied you! I wrote my dissertation in science fiction - no reason dissertations shouldn't be fun. I used to tell people I was basically an expert on Martians. I think we definitely need a few at the forum.
So welcome to FV
