Fun Things to Do With Wesley
So I've been sitting here thinking and I want to teach Wesley a lot of different things and I want to DO a lot of things with him.
I'm starting a list of things that I want to do...it'll be a lifetime of goals for me and him. Add yours! Give me ideas!!
1. Teach him to ride a bike
2. Climb a tree with him
3. Take him outside to look for shooting stars.
4. Go arrowhead hunting.
5. Splash in the Mississipi River
6. Go mushroom hunting
7. Take him fishing
8. Teach him to cook
9. Teach him how to grocery shop from a list
10. Dance with him.
That's the beginning---anyone have any more??McD

I always took mine on a quest.
Each one we went on had a collection.
One trip we would try and find feathers, on another yellow flowers, also, we played find that letter in the car.
Mine are big now--21 and 13 but they still like to hang out with Mama.
Just make it fun, that is all it takes. The math never lies, budget in INK!
Amount of Free items 2012 $391.33

Debt #2 12/31/12 CC $901.88
Debt #3 12/31/12 $3648.83

I agree with camping! That is our vacation each year and we love it. We took our kids the first time when they were 3 and 7. That didn't work out so well but we started again when the youngest was in Kindergarten and we go several times every summer. We have a camper and we love camping so much that we even have a fire pit in our backyard so we can build campfires out there and roast marshmallows, etc.
Catch fireflies!
Play in the mud!
Not only teach him to cook, but to do laundry, dishes, clean bathrooms, etc.
Have movie days. Stay in your pj's all day, watch movies and eat junk food!S

One of the things my kids liked at that age was planting flowers/veggies and watching them grow. Another one was building a fort...outside or inside...that was always fun.

Teach him to love animals. this is one of the MOST important things I thing parents should teach their kids. Why? It teaches empathy, responsibility, and caring for something that's not a human, but very important int he scheme of things.
Teach him to appreciate art.
Teach the love of reading.

I thought of something else...we bought a bird house kit from Lowes when DS was about that age, he and DH built it and hung it. He loved watching the birds come to his bird house.

We have a "field trip" each week in the summer ~ since I am off of work. I agree with all the other suggestions as well. The thing I try to keep in mind ~ They MAY or May not remember the activity/trip but they will learn the lesson. I was rather dissapointed after some of our trips and they had no recollection.
Do you have a Botanical garden? My kids love ours.
I would definitely check out the classes at the library, Home Depot/Lowes.
Check out this site. You can plan activities in all major cities of the US ~ great for when traveling.

If you're looking for a lifetime of things...
teach the 'old school' life skills (they CAN be fun, and you sneak education in to him at the same time)
make butter
make candles
plan a trip using a map (even if you don't go)
bird watch
go for a walk in the woods and identify the trees, flower, berries etc
there is SO much more... I'll have to get back to you
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!
