    Question Activia?

Has anyone used Activia? How did you like it? And stupid question...they say its guaranteed to work if you eat it daily for 7 days but how do you actually know if it worked? I bought it but not sure about it.

any yogurt with active cultures will do what Activia claims.
The problem with many other yogurts is that there is so much sugar in it, it can possibly cause more problems (gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, acute malabsorption, etc.) and/or lessen the effects of the active cultures w/in the GI tract.

to me, it's just another marketing gimmick.

i know plenty of ppl who swear by it, and also others who swear by other brands. and then more who simply dont consume yogurt and are "regular" anyway. it's one of those things that really only YOU can tell because your digestion is unique to you and only you.

I have only tried this once while at my mil's house. I did fill out a survey for canadians where we are suppose to get a coupon to try it for free. Have not received it yet, so I guess if I receive it I will try it then.

Let me tell you my experience with Activia.

Wesley, not quite 2 years old at the time, and I are sitting at my mother-in-law's house. Wesley asks for yogurt but I told him no since all my mil had was Activia. Well my mil decided that he could have it! I repeatedly told her no-saying it was made to stimulate the adult g.i. track and shouldn't be given to a child under the age of 2!

Anyways, she ended up giving it to him when I was out of the room. Next morning when I woke Wesley up, this kid was letting out a solid string of toots for 30 minutes. As I carried him up to his daycare, he had a continuous 2 minute toot.

I apologized profusely and warned my daycare provider of the impending doom she was about to face. I got a call from her about an hour later. Exactly 20 minutes after I dropped Wesley off, she noticed that there was something on her throw pillow. And her couch. And her son. And was covering Wesley from the back of his ears to the bottom of his feet.
Oh yes, my friends, my mother-in-law turned my child into a 2 and a half foot long turd!!!!

The best part to this story was when I got to call my mother-in-law and say...I TOLD YOU SO!!! She was going to send my daycare provider an apology card....until I told her that HallMark doesn't carry, "Sorry I sh*t on your Couch" cards.

The best part of this...she'll listen to you next time! Too bad it wasn't her couch...(oops I'm naughty I know)

OMG, I'm sorry I'm laughing at you, but that may just be the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life!

Activia really is nothing more than regular yogurt. If you get a sugar free yogurt (no sugar added, actually) it'll do the same thing.

Our Aldi's carries no sugar added yogurt and it does the same thing. You honestly won't notice that much of a difference as far as "regularity" goes, but you will notice a different feeling in your digestive track.

Thanks, Nicole. I needed that laugh. Though it sure must have been AWFUL at the time for all parties involved.

So, yogurt-experts, if I make my own homemade yogurt using a storebought container of yogurt as a starter, will it will be as beneficial as Activia claims to be? We rarely buy yogurt since it is so sugary, and I don't like the artificially sweetened stuff. I recently found an old Salton yogurt maker for $4 at Deseret Industries thrift shop, and bought a small container of plain yogurt from the store this morning, so I'm going to take the plunge tomorrow. Fingers crossed it turns out!

Um, my 18mo eats it all the time with no problems. I gave it to her for diarrhea. YMMV

You could also just take an OTC probiotic

Which is basically a group of "friendly bacteria" or "microflora" that work to maintain a healthy intestinal tract and help fight illness and disease.

While these organisms do occur naturally in the body, there are a number of reasons why probiotic supplementation may now be necessary..... Antibiotics are the main culprits. It's also not as easy as not taking antibotics yourself. If you eat "convential dairy and meat", it's most likely pumped full of antibotics. Either directly adminstrated to the animal itself, or antibotic fortified food.
