    Default thoughts on planning ahead.

i got my feelings hurt today by a dearly loved co-worker.

I was told that "i jump to conclusions and that I plan ahead too much"

heck, i thought that my fore -sightedness was one of my assets.

I was informed that my functioning lab room was needed for something else and would be taken away next year. It take some weeks to get a new chemistry lab room functional and check all the plumbing, gas lines, etc. Any repairs have to be on this year's budget, too. The budget closes in march. as a supervisor i also have to be responsible for the new chemistry teachers as well.

so I thought i was doing well, calling the school plumber and showing him what needed to be done to get this new abandoned lab room functional for next school year.

my colleague jumped me this morning, very huffy, saying that "we don't know who they are going to hire or where they will go. you jump to conclusions and you read too much into things and you plan ahead too much".

he only uses the lab room like once a year, after I have done all the work to set it up, and get it ready. His subject doesn't use labs much. he is not a supervisor and not responsible for budgetary stuff.

    what gives?

    This too shall pass.
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

he probably is having a bad day (or maybe a bad life...who knows)....you were just at the right place and the right time... it seems like everyone is huffy right now and by his comments he sounds a little scared of the future.... don't stop planning for the future....planning ahead is a great asset to have...don't let anyone take that away from you....ignore him....or hug him...(sounds like HE needs it)....

Everyone approaches situations differently. You are a planner, obviously. He isn't. I would try (easier said that done, I know) to let it roll off your back and do what you feel is appropriate as far as planning for the lab changes.

My guess is his supervisor told him he should be more like you. Or, he is a horse's hindquarters.

co-worker and others were discussing one getting preapproved for a mortgage this weekend. she (a different co-worker) was asking for advice.

I asserted that it would be a good idea to qualify on one spouse's income in case something happened to the other. Co-workers disagreed with me. then I asserted that the payment should be no more than 25 -30percent of the take home pay. Got shot down again. Then i asked how much student loans they had, and to pay those off before getting into a house. Might have thought i dropped a bomb. Another co-worker said she had 93000 in student loans and she would take those to her grave, with no intention of paying them.

having yet not learned to keep quiet, then i said to get a 15 year fixed rate mortgage, if not then qualify for a 30 year mortgage and pay it off faster. and to make sure there was no prepayment penalty. Then I got attacked for having paid off my house early, having been married to mr rich engineer. hun a 70,000 house wasn't a fricken mansion.

And i wonder why i never get invited to any functions at their houses.

not real popular this week, i guess. (wink)

I'm not obnoxious about any of this on a normal day, keep real quiet about frugality issues, but she DID ask for advice.

normally we get along great but this felt like family, with the annual uncomfortable moment.

I have to agree it was pobably a mix of him being stressed out etc. as far as your advice getting shot down, that would annoy me as well. The proof is in the pudding, when you can sleep at night because you have everything in your life managed and they are stressing, you can just smile quietly to yourself and know you're on the right track!
Totally OT I see from your siggy your LDS. I am too, the church is having an interesting conference near where I live called "All is safely gathered in" I noticed one of the classes offered is specifically on thinking and planning ahead and how essential it is to be as prepared as possible for any number of situations -- you're doing great! Keep it up, your co-workers still love you, like you said all families have these incidents.
