Feeling very nervous about today; possible layoffs
DH came home on Thursday and told me that it looked like his company would be doing more layoffs today. I have not had a good feeling in my gut about this since he told me. The other layoff announcements have not made me this nervous, but for some reason this one does. His department has weathered the previous ones really well only losing an absolutely useless manager and a part-time college student. Now, I imagine they are looking rather heavy to the bean counters. DH is very highly thought of and is a really good employee, but he is also one of the higher paid in the office. When they cut the IT department in December they did it by pay, cutting all senior, knowledgeable employees and keeping the few that didn't make as much and as my husband says "are pretty useless".
All that put together makes me worry more for DH's job than at anytime in the last year. Since I'm a planner for all contingencies, I've checked unemployment and DH will receive enough to pay all our bills, but we will not be able to afford health insurance or food. I have a stockpile for food and will apply for food benefits if we have to. The state's health insurance program for children is tapped out, and has at least a 6 month waiting list.
Since DH's career is any swimming pool maintenance and equipment he has the possibility of picking up a temporary job from May through September, but may make less than unemployment if he does.
I really hope I am worrying for nothing. But, I don't have a good feeling about today.Amy

I hope your worries are just that and your husband will be fine. If not you sound like you have been proactive in thinking ahead and am sure you and your family will be able to weather this storm.
Keep your chin up!

Praying for you. The same thing is happening at my work now and it's nerve racking to say the least.
One idea, put your kids on the waiting list now, that way if the worst happens they will already be closer to the front. If they call you up and he's still employed you can always decline.
