my kitty has KDD....
that's 'kitty deficit disorder'....okay...so i made it up....but its real...he has it....
he's 2 yrs old (3 in july) and i CANNOT keep him entertained....he wants to play and be paid attention to 24 hrs a day...he doesn't want us to sleep either...i thought at first the constant wailing that he does in my ear from the nightstand was coz he was hungry...so i would feed him...go back to bed...10mins later...more wailing...he will wail until i get up...he 'allows' me to go lay on the couch but that's it...if i ignore him (like suggested by the vet) he stomps on me...he jumps from the nightstand onto me...he sits by my head and 'taps' me on the cheeks...each time getting harder....(he does not do this to DH....why>>>>>).....
so then he will drive my other cat crazy and he runs away from him and hides coz he wants to sleep (like a NORMAL cat) they are the same age...complete different personalities.....
he has a boot string that he plays with (has a whole basket of stuff) but this string he drags around the house and he brings it to you and lays on it and gives you that pitiful look until you play with him...all...day....long.....
--i have hung bird feeders outside the windows....he gets bored with that....
--he has a huge cat tree by the patio door...boring
--i bought him fish and a fishtank....cool...for about a day.....
--hates catnip....not impressed....
--has every toy known to cat....could care less....
ugh...what's a pet parent to do......

How about getting one of those little room sweepers (roomba??)? With this one tie his string to the back of it and set it to operate at night. For fun check out youtube with some of these machines entertaining other cats.

Put him in a crate in a room where you can't hear him at night. Then don't give into the temptation to pay attention to him when he's yelling about the injustice. If you even look in on him, it's attention and it'll just encourage him. Every time you give him what he wants, you reinforce the behavior you don't want.
You can also try spraying him with a water bottle when he misbehaves. I don't like that method much because the water bottle is never where I need it and ours are bright enough to figure out if I don't have it, they can get away with stuff.Last edited by Spirit Deer; 03-10-2009 at 07:34 AM.

I have one that is the same way. It is just a trait of some breeds (siamese and russian blues are the worst - high maintenance for sure). Just had to laugh when I read your post. Had the kids read it too - they thought Buckethead was the only one like this.

oh no spirit...i could never put him in a crate...(i would put dh in one before my babies...sad thing is ..dh knows and understands this..haha)....
i did try once last year to lock him out of the bedroom...but my poor other cat that loves to sleep with me and doesn't coz any noise had to be locked out too and i gotta tell ya...you think they would make a little noise at the door and go away....NOPE!....the WHOLE night long we had to listen to them 'throw their bodies at the door' it started out with light knocking...got louder and louder and by the time i couldn't take it any longer and got up and let them in they had taken to running down the hall at full speed and 'body-slamming' the door.... just can't be apart from me i guess...(now if i could only teach dh that trick lol)....
the vet says to completely ignore him...don't look at him...don't pet him...don't even open your eyes...play dead...and it works...for about 10 mins...he huffs (and he really does) and then walks away...then he's back....like he's never been there before....(and the whole time DH is whispering in my ear -'mommy get up...mommy get up....' ( i don't know who i want to smack more..baxter or dh)...dh thinks its funny coz he doesn't bother him at all...if i am gone for the nite...he sleeps like a little angel at the end of the bed and you never hear a peep.... it's me he loves to torture.....
he's a little 'tuxedo' cat -black & white and he's just soooo darn cute and his personality is so that you can't ignore him....i know i 'created' him to be the way he is now...i adore him...and he adores me....dh says that he sits at the door and wails when i go out if dh is still inside....(he must think he is a dog...cats are not supposed to act like this....)...
i have offered him another brother (coz harley is very proper and mature and doesn't like to get his fur 'ruffled' so he doesn't play with him as much as he would like)...but dh gives me these really 'evil' looks when i am telling baxter he needs a bady brother to play with...i'm starting to think that may not go over very well...haha....
so i will check out the you-tube videos for ideas...he just needs more stimulation.... and as i write this i am looking at him for he is now standing on top of the fishtank on his back two legs 'swinging' the picture on the wall back and forth....ugh......Last edited by sabrelvssammy; 03-10-2009 at 01:19 PM.

I keep a squirt bottle on the nightstand (can't imagine what visitors must think!). I often use it on Harvey, my little ball of energy. No, I do NOT want you in the closet at 2 a.m., I do NOT want to play string at 3 a.m., I will NOT feed you at 4 a.m.! He settles down as soon as I use the bottle and curls up on me somewhere.
My big cat, Bandit, is not like this, but my animals MUST be near me all of the time. If I sit down for five minutes, all three of them will be on or touching me! DH gets a good laugh out of it.
