    Default Citi Bank posts profit

    http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/...ces-Stocks.php

I find it interesting that they have posted such a profit. Could that possibly be tied to the fact that they in the past few months "jacked" their cardmember's APRs up the wazzo?

I think the surge has more to do with talk regarding the Uptick Rule possibly being reinstated

Probably..also, the "market expectations" for them couldn't possibly have been lower so theyll get a stock bump out of it as well. Mind you with their stock at $1.05 yesterday that couldn't really have gone much lower either.

I'd buy stock if I had the money. With the Feds now owning something between 30% and 40% of Citi it isn't as if they'll be ALLOWED to fail anyway. The gov't would "lose" too much $$.

But I'd still pick an investment the government has an active interest in making profitable than anything else int he hairy scary stock market

So the stock market has gone from pretty darn awful to slightly less pretty darn awful. Whoop dee doo.

I am happy that the market did well today- who can complain about that? But it's hardly a sign of long-term recovery.
