Has Anybody dyed clothes before?
I have a sweater that is light pink but it has stains on it. I was thinking I could dye it a different color so it would be wearable. I would love to hear how your experience went. TIA

Yes, I've dyed MANY things. It's been easier to go from light to dark. I use a bucket to dye in, even when I had my own washer and could control the cycles... I didn't want to risk coloring the chamber.
Some stains can't be dyed over... it will change color, but not be even with the rest.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

1. What kind of fiber is your sweater? Natural fibers take better than synthetic
2. What kind of stain? Some stains prevent the dye from taking.

I say go for it... the sweater is unwearable as it is and even if it doesn't work you will get some practice for dying in the future. I love to wear white t-shirts but they get dingy and/or stained after about one season so the next year I dye them and have some colorful shirts as well. I also dye my faded blue jeans to make them last longer and my kids clothes that they stain. I figure the clothes are ruined if I don't dye and they can still be used for play clothes either way. The cost of the dye is neglegable so it's worth it to me.
I dye mine in my washing machine if I'm doing several of the same color and as long as you follow the instructions for cleaning after (running the cycle with vinegar usually) you won't stain other clothes. I use buckets if I'm doing several different colors- it's a litte more time consuming but still not a bad sunny afternoon project. Good luck!

I agree with elphie. You can't wear it anyway so go for it and see what happens and you will learn from the experiment.
