Default Why are some people just not natualy organized?

I drive myself crazy! I am so unorganized.. everything is everywhere. Nothing is where is should be and nothing gets put back after it is used.

It's not that I don't' want to be organized, oh I want to so badly. There isn't a day that I don't get angry with myself because I can't find something. I have all the best intentions to keep things where they belong but it just doesn't happen. But why?? Why can't I get it together? It bothers me to so much that you would think I would be about to control the problem.

Today I cleaned out a closet that was just a few months ago. And now I am going to work on the master that was just done a few weeks ago. Please tell me I am not alone.

You are not alone! I love, love, love to be organized! Saves so much time and frustration. But, it is a constant work in progress for me, too. This weekend I was digging around in the coat closet because my son was going to winter camp, and I was trying to find his missing glove. No luck! But, I did find the brand new Christmas stocking I had bought for my daughter and could not find for the life of me at Christmas time! Grrr!

    I feel your pain!

You'd take one step into my house, look around and walk right back out LOL. I am organized when it comes to being places, being on time, etc. My kids have never been tardy for school unless the bus was late or they had an appointment before school(one time).

But when it comes to the house, I'm a mess! There are stacks of papers, newspapers, magazines, etc. everywhere. The kitchen table, the end tables, in my room. There is clean laundry everywhere too. In my bedroom there is a path around the bed LOL.

I too would like to be neater and more organzied. But I've resigned myself to the fact that it's just not in me. I had planned to work really had on it this winter, then I've been sick all winter. Now it's time for me to go back to work and there it all lays. Oh well!

I am a bit more like Sherri.
When I worked, I was VERY organized at my job and there are somethings at home that are very organized. I am organized as to what needs to get done and when as well as getting the kids out of the house, etc.

However, I don't like to clean and clean and clean and I find that the other 3 humans in the house are not even as organized I am, so....

I grew up in an "organized" house. Honestly, I don't think it came naturally for my mom...she worked hard to be organized. I'm not sure it comes naturally for anyone, it involves a good bit of work and thought to be organized.

Add me to the list. I want to be organized and I do try, but it never lasts long. All the cleaning and putting everything in its place only lasts a few days and then I'm right back were I started. At least I know I'm not alone.

~I absolutely agree. I work two hours a day right now keeping my tiny house picked up and organized and it's not enough. Four hours a day would be perfect. I'm constantly teaching hubby and the kids how to pull their weight but the bulk will always fall on me.
The best two things to do to become organized are to purge your stuff mercilessly and to set aside time everyday to put things where they belong.~

I'm wondering if you have ever looked into the possibility that you may have some ADD issues? My dh is ADD, he's one of the smartest guys you've ever met but he is the epitomy of the absent minded professor, always misplacing keys, wallet etc. Luckily (I guess) he's married to someone with OCD issues so I am uber organized. I am also rather uptight, and not spontaneous so there are some definite downsides to having a personality type that is "naturally" organized. I have a friend who has a house that is just always a disaster but she is one of the most fun, happy people I have ever met she puts people before her house and it shows. I am mortified if anyone "drops" in and my house isn't completely tidied. Don't beat yourself up too much we all have our strengths and weaknesses just keep looking for the system you can make work.

ughhh I know at work i have to work hard to be organized and have to make lists to get everything done.. now at home with working full time and sleeping while the kids are at school(should be sleeping now but my 9 year old is home sick and wanted chicken noodle soup right now!!!) I find i run around when i am awake but there is never enough hours in the day!!! I try to recrute the others whom live with me but only when my almost 17 year old wants something does she help and my 9 year old only when i brib really hard!!! Hubby isn't home very much and when he is .. he is either in and out of sleep on the couch or sleeping.. or trucking! So i either do things or they dont' get done.. soooo needless to say that since I went back to work full time after Lilly( my 9 year old) went back to school its been very messy here!!!! Makes me crazy but what do you do????

I find it hard to get focused .. but when i do i am fine. I also have my days where i am running around all day long but at the end of the day i have about 5o things started and nothing finished!!!

I am right there with you! I want to have that perfectly organized clean, cozy house! But No matter how hard I try it's a mess again before I know it... I'll get it somewhat clean, and vow to keep it that way and within a week, it's a mess again! Oh well, maybe one of these days I'll get my act together!! I have a spring break vacation coming up in April...maybe then, I'll get it all cleaned...and see how long I can make it last!!!

God, I am right there with you! There are always those things that have absolutely no place whatsoever in my household, but they hang out like they do! It's not like I don't have any room to put these things away but what I am supposed to do... put them all in a box marked 'crazy woman's belongings that don't belong but sort of do'?

My brother got the organization genes.

I am by nature very disorganized and very cluttered. I did learn to overcompensate to get myself thru school. Color coded notebooks and texts, a stash of small post it notes and labels to book mark chapters in the syllabus and text. I would make my own tabs for indexing my notes....

I have tables, charts and spreadsheets to help me keep my head straight and I use them 80 % of the time. AND TIME IT TAKES!!! Sometimes more than I want to spend on it. But when I am organized my days and weeks are so much smoother. I just wish I got some of those genes.

as frugalbabe said...the opposite can be just as bad....the grass is not 'always greener on the other side'....being OCD can drive you just as batty.... there's only so many times and ways you can re-arrange the silverware drawer....but darn-it i insist on trying til i can come up with still another....

and how about being perfectly comfortable and warm under a blanket on the couch and noticing out of the corner of your eye that the picture is cock-eyed...or something is moved 1/10mm from where it should be...."""BAM"""" just like that ....you are up and across the room before anyone even knew what happened.... ugh!!!!

just for ONCE i would like to be able to 'walk away' from something and say 'i'll do it later....".......
