Are you seeing better prices?
Are you seeing the price of groceries go down any? Or finding that sales are getting better? What is the price of gas now where you live?
Gas is 2.06 in my area, 1.95 in the big town.
I'm not seeing everyday prices going down, but I am seeing better sales.
For a long time most of the sales in my area were for things I didn't use. Alot of hba, medicines, etc. Now I'm seeing more sales on things I use and need to stock up on. Things like soup, canned tuna and fresh produce are going on good sales here. It's nice to be able to restock my pantry with sales and to find good prices on produce.
In the last two weeks I've gotten
Mac and cheese 3/1.00
8oz blocks of cheese (cheddar, colby jack, mozzerella, etc.) for 1.00
64oz jugs of 100% apple juice for 1.00
Tuna .50 each
12 packs of name brand toilet paper 3.79
Tomato soup 3/1.00
grapes 1.00 pound
tomatoes .78 pound
cantaloupes 1.00 each
10lbs potatoes 2.79
2% milk 2.49 a gallon
Are things looking up a little in your area?

Gas is $1.85 here and milk is $2.49 in Md where I get my groceries ( no food tax). I haven't seen those kinds of prices here. The few things that are low in price are greens. Kale is $1.19 lb., and cabbage is .59 lb The grocery store in Md did have tuna 10/$10 . And they had my decongestant 10/$10
I'm waiting on the pork and beans to go on sale so I can stock up

Locally I have been seeing everyday prices go down little by little.
I have been seeing sales get better and better. They seem to be more on the basic stuff than they use to be.
Prices for gasoline had dropped and have been staying steady here for a few weeks.
What I have been seeing less of is the day old breads and reduced for quick sale produce and especially meats like ground beef. The store has adjusted to the change in the way people shop or there is just way more competition for the reduced stuff.

Wher I live gas has come way down from it's high of $4.39/gallon to $2.24/gallon.but our gas is always really expensive because of the Canadian border. The Canadians come down on fumes and fill up since it's much cheaper here than there.
Milk/$2.50/gallon
I've noticed that our sales have changed "shape", not so much prices though.
Instead of tuna being on sale for X/per can or packet..it's $10 for X..a slightly better price than the per can sale, but only if you are buying 10 cans/packets of it.
On the other hand..it's a great time to be stockpiling especially at the salvage or discount grocery stores. A lot of really high end merchandise is going unsold and ending up in the discount stores.
I just bought a pint of Hazelnut oil for $2..unheard of. That stuff is usually around $9 a pint.

Gas is 1.69 to 1.75 in my area. I have seen prices on a few food items come down, but not many.
I agree with Imagine, some of the sales seem to be better, and more focused on basics like bread, tuna, fresh vegetables.... or maybe I'm just paying more attention than I was a year ago.
I have noticed more tv ads are now telling us what a good value their products are.Use it up, Wear it out,

The stores around here have started to say that X for $10 But if you only buy one it rings up the same as if you had bought the $10 worth.
There are a few exceptions to that though. One being if a company like Pillsbury or Proctor and Gamble give an certain amount off like $5 if you buy a certain number of their products.

Same here I guess...Gas is holding steady at around $2.00 per gallon, and I can get milk for 1.98 a gallon at aldi's. I have been going to the discounts stores like aldi's lately to stock up on the basics. When the big grocery stores hold good sales then I will go there and stock up on the sale items!

Our prices are going down. Milk is hovering between 2$ and 2.25 a gallon for whole or 2%. Mac-n-cheese is 33c a box. Lettuce, peppers, oranges, grapes, carrots, brocolli are all 1 per lb or each. I filled up just a few days ago for $1.65 a gallon. Usually you can buy boneless-skinless chicken breasts for 1.69 a lb (family pack) and I buy a 2.5lb bag of cheese for $6.50. I can't complain about our food prices. Employment in our area is experiencing moderate growth. It is easy, living here, to forget there is a recession happening in the rest of the country.

I'm actually seeing prices go back up. Unless you count the price of a 12pk of hamburger buns going down 9 cents, pretty much everything else has gone up in price.

We are paying $1.799 for gasoline. It varies .05 to .10 at the different stations here. A gallon of Pet milk for $3.39 is excellent deal, since its usually $3.69 to $3.99. I'm finding some decent sale prices, but you really have to stock up. Seems to be a long time between sales on certain items now. Here are a few examples of the best sale prices I've noticed over the last month (some items I don't buy, but the prices catch my eye) ~
Domino sugar 4lbs 2/$3
apples, oranges & seedless grapes $1 per lb
white potatoes 8 or 10lb $3.99
cabbage .39 per lb
Kraft 16 slices cheese 3/$5
store brand 8oz cheese $2
store brand tuna 3/$1
Gain laundry powder 40 load $3.99
Purex 24-32 load liquid $2.99 (CVS this week)
April Groceries $280/270 Pet Supplies $145/120
Coupons $34.52
March Groceries $261/250 Pet Supplies $128/120
Coupons $47.80
Coupon Saving 2013 $137.42
2012 $395.16
2011 $376.25

Gas was 1.69 this morning.
I dont know if the sales are getting better or if I am just getting better finding them. But nothing is bought without a sale or coupon attached to the purchase.Last edited by lvngwell; 03-16-2009 at 04:02 PM.
