Default Watch the Milk/OJ half gallon sizes

last week I had purchased a Half gallon size of OJ. I had my DD get it and put it in the shopping cart and put away when we got home. I pulled it out today and thought, man this looks so much smaller. I looked at the ounce size. IT SHRUNK..... by 5 ounces. Very suttle of the company, don't you think. Just a fair warning to all.

Come join those of us who purchase frozen concentrated OJ out of the freezer case for the lowest price product. Ready-to-serve OJ, out of the refrigerator case, has always cost much more per oz. than frozen concentrated (where you add your own water). Juice boxes - the other rip-off. I'll have to run the numbers the next time I go shopping.

I think ice cream containers have shrunk too. I never buy Dreyer's but it was on a great sale at Safeway and if I spent $25 in the frozen food section I got a $10 coupon for my next visit, so I bought 2 containers. I swear those containers are NOT the same size as when I purchased them a few years ago!

Yup. Lots of companies are doing this. To me, it's sneaky and a huge rip-off. Google "shrinking food package sizes" and a long article from USAToday comes up. Very eye-opening (sorry I didn't post the link...don't have the status yet...).

Same thing happened a number of years ago to the 25 lb. bag of rice - it went down to 20 lbs. with no warning and no change in price. Now, what we paid 5.99 for, we pay 15.99 if we're lucky.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I noticed the same thing when I purchased OJ last. Wouldn't have bought it if it weren't on sale and if I hadn't had a coupon for it.

    i hate this

i would rather they outright changed the price than try to deceive their customers with a similar package for the price of less food.

I've noticed this with several items. Tuna being the big one for me. It has gone from 6oz to 5oz.

I've also noticed that stores like Kroger and Walmart are doing away with alot of their brands of items! I guess if all they sell is name brand we will have to buy it at the higher price huh?

I noticed this with Kroger spices and Walmart doesn't carry their own brands of dips anymore. There have been several other things at Walmart but I can't remember what at the moment LOL.

Walmart is actually increasing the numbers in thei Great Value line. Like 100 new products.

Yep. I posted about this very thing last week. :cangry:
Carton felt really small in my hand. Looked at it, it was 59 oz. instead of 64 oz.

It makes it harder for us to "survive". I also usually buy OJ in concentrate form BUT I need (only for me, not rest of family) low sugar OJ and haven't found that in concentrate form yet so I do sometimes buy a carton of Tropicana 50pct less sugar OJ.

this has been going on forever.
i remember the 5lb bag of sugar going down to 4 - some places 3.5 lbs - w/no price change.
same with flours, cornmeal, bags/boxes of pasta/rice/noodles, all liquids (milk, juices, yogurts, coffees, coffee creamers, etc.).

pay attention to your boxes of snacks too... chips, crackers, cookies, etc.
    fewer per package.

i noticed this a long time ago when portion sizes were being labeled as:
"Approximately (so many) in bag/box/etc". It wasnt always "approximately"... and not all products are relative either (some are specific still).

it's the nature of the beast.
