Tastes of your Childhood
What are the tastes of your childhood?
What food is it that when you eat it your transported back to memories of your childhood?
My taste of childhood is Spaghetti-Os
My son made something he called Pizza mac ( a box of prepared mac and cheese with a pizza sauce cooked in and cut up peperoni)
It so tasted like Spaghetti-Os to me and I instantly remembered my mom cooking them for me as a child. Ah memeories.
Son was quite proud of if himself for making "such a unique taste" I then realized my children hadn't tasted Spaghetti-Os, unless it was at Grandma's house.
I wonder what there taste of childhood will be when they grow up.
What is your taste of childhood?

fried chicken, beans and cornbread, fried taters, wilted lettuce salad........we were poor and from the south, so we didn't have canned or boxed anything and most of our food was fried.

Another Spaghetti O's . My Mom used to buy the kinds with the franks.
Strange though. They taste like metal to me now.

Homemade cookies, especially snickerdoodles.
Scalloped potatoes the way my mom makes 'em. (and me too, now)
Chipped beef gravy over either bisquits or mashed potatoes.______

Scrambled hamburg. My mother must have made it 5 nights a week!
Also, Duncan Hines moist deluxe yellow cake (made by my grandmother) with her special sugar frosting - a stick of butter, 1/2 cup of milk, teaspoon of vanilla and a box of confectioners sugar.
When I got married, my mother wanted a fancy tiered wedding cake, but I wanted so much to taste one of my grandmother's cakes. She died several years ago, but my cousin managed to get it just right!

Smells, sights & sounds bring back more of childhood to me. I was just thinking of that the other day when I was putting Coppertone sunscreen lotion on my face. Love that smell & thoughts of fun carefree summers came rushing back to me.
As far as food goes...probably tunafish macaroni salad. I make it now & then for my family too.
I bought this bowl that is just like the one my Mom served us summer salads in just for the memories.

I ate the ones with franks too.

I bought a can for me when it was on a super cheap sale. (ate it without the kids they were at school) it tasted like metal to me too but the "recipe" Son made sure tasted like it to me. Think if I make it again I'll try cut up hot dogs instead of pepperoni .

Ah memories my mom I think didn't believe in sunscreen. LOL I burned every year.
When my Son was a toddler and she was watching him for the day. I told her she needed to put son screen on my very very pale son if they went outside especially if they were going to play in the sprinkler. She promised she would. That night I while getting son ready for bed. I pulled his shirt off he was bright red except for a pale boy skin colored Grandma sized hand print.
She thought that would have been good enough. I showed her the next morning how you put in on white and rub it in until it is invisible. She said "that seems very wasteful"
