I second that mom2knk! I have my desk radio tuned into a classical station at work at a low volume. It's very calming and I can't be distracted by annoying lyrics. I especially like the dj's on classical stations. They speak sotfly, are typically more mature and don't waste time with unnecessary chatter between records. I am by no means a classical music afficionado, but I do enjoy deciphering the different instruments and visualizing them as if I were seeing them played on a stage. I don't listen to classical at home however.

I love classical music myself. I have certain 'musical moods' like most people and sometimes just need to listen the calming vibrations of classical music......I really loved the Utube links, Thanks!

Love classical music too!
I just started taking viola lessons about 6 months ago. I just love the deep, melancholy sound of the instrument. However, I don't know if it's b/c I'm an adult learner, it is the hardest, most frustrating thing that I've willingly undertaken! BUT, I'm still hopeful that I'll be able to play music someday.
Any words of wisdom?

I have come to like classical much more in the last few years, but I can't claim to be educated about it ;-). Our wedding was not an extravagant affair, but we had a little group of classical musicians from the closest university play classical music, and Pachelbel's Canon for the "wedding march." I have picked up a few CD's along the way; Mozart, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Debussy. I've also come to like some opera, Pavarotti, "The Flower Duet," etc. Also, I became really interested in English choral music when I heard the song in the wedding scene of Ever After. One of my favorite CD's lately is Agnus Dei.

I've always loved classical music. Listening and playing. I played the flute and french horn throughout school and originally went to college as a piano performance major.
I had heard Apocalypta's "Angel" theme before, (because I am Angel's #1 fan) but I didn't realize they were a group. I listened to both of those other youtube links and I gotta go get me a CD!!! Thanks!
My favorite instrument is the cello and I always wished I had learned how to play. Talk about soulful. The sound of that one instrument can bring me to tears. My Blog: http://amysreallife.wordpress.com

Yes I do...
AND I have always played it in the house, car and on my sons cd player when he goes to sleep (now 8 and he STILL likes it...he KNOWS it's good for his brain). I am partial to Vivaldo...I love the violin.

Keep at it! String instruments are quite challenging but don't give up, you will be surprised at the lovely music you will be making soon.
I have a degree in Vocal Performance. I love classical music, and I especially love Opera and Art Songs. My favorites tend to be Mozart and the composers with folk music influences like Vaughan Williams, Grieg, Copeland, etc.
I go to more live classical music than I listen to on the radio. I prefer Oldies or something like that on the radio. But I agree that the dj's for classical stations are usually great. The commercials also tend to be less annoying.
If you like classical music on the radio, I recommend looking for a free local event to see. If you live near a college there will be lots of free concerts you can attend and many communities have small volunteer orchestras/bands.
