Our Different Kind of Spring Break
We had plans for spring break this week: going away somewhere to relax, not too far away, get a cozy little bed and breakfast or an inn somewhere, eat some nice meals at different kinds of restaurants, take long walks, have afternoon coffee at a quaint coffee shop, do some antiques shopping........ Sound good? We thought so.
Then everything changed.
It's a long story, but the bottom line is that we weren't able to go away. Yet we still wanted and needed that break. So we did something different.
We're still at home, but we sleep luxuriously late. We are catching up on some little jobs that we kept putting off, but we are slow and casual about them: no timetables. We still go for that little walk, but it's around the neighborhood. I make coffee in the afternoon and we sit and sip and savor.
We decided that each day this week, we would go out to eat.
Hubby is choosing on Monday and Wednesday. I am choosing on Tuesday and Thursday, and Friday we are heading out and choosing something together.
Monday we went to Applebees. We sat there for 20 minutes without seeing a waiter. Hubby went to the host and asked if we could get some water and a waiter. The host sent over a waitress from another area who took our order. They said they didn't know what happened to the guy who was supposed to be our waiter; he just disappeared. Anyway because we had to wait for so long, they gave us a free fruit tray, free salads, free shrimp, and free baked potatoes. We ordered the steak, mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. They gave us the bigger steaks. We couldn't eat it all, so came home with enough for another meal. Cost: $5.00. Yep, that's right.
Tuesday, I choose Jack in the Box. We got a dollar burger and an appetizer box. Cost: $6.00.
Today, Hubby chose to have breakfast at Denny's. We each had a Grand Slam, and I brought half of mine home. Cost: $12.00 plus $3 for coffee.
Tomorrow we will lunch at Max and Erma's, a slightly upscale place. But lunch is cheaper, and I have a coupon to get one entree free with purchasing an entree. We already know that we want the burger, so cost will be about $10.00.
On Friday we are heading out to help cmdarlin move to her new home. We plan to look along the way for something different: maybe a mom and pop diner or such.
And that is our spring break. Actually, it is turning out to be a cheaper vacation than what we had planned. We're enjoying ourselves, relaxing, spending time together, and still having our fun with eating out. And then next week....... back to reality.
Have you ever had your vacation plans changed, so you did something differently? Did you still enjoy it? What did you discover?Spiritual:

Now that's my kind of spring break. No pressure and just enjoying each others company. We never get a spring break, but the weekends we have off together are close to your spring break.

What a great spring break you have created for yourselves!!

Sounds like a nice, quiet time away.... (except for the moving part!)
I will be on spring break in a few weeks and will be spending it unpacking. It will be so nice to have it all over with.
I can't tell you how much Wendell and I appreciate your help this weekend. It means a lot to both of us. I am looking forward to meeting you and your DH. If I get the kitchen taken care of, maybe I can cook for you!
Hope you have a safe trip down here,
Debbie
ps... Wendell says that he does have a compressor. Its not the best but should get the job done.

Sounds like a good vacation to me.
We have a lot of things in our area we've never visited, such as a couple of bear centers, a Great Lakes aquarium, train rides in various places, an underground mine to tour. It's sort of sad the things closest to home so often get overlooked. I've always thought a nice vacation for us would be to use the time off to do local things we've never done, and it would be cheap, too.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That sounds so nice and peaceful. Vacations can be nice, but usually by the end of our vacations, I'm so happy to be home, but then have tons to catch up on!
I'm so glad you are able to go help cmdarlin move! I was just telling her the other day that I wished I was closer so I could come and help her (and help her decorate
).
Have fun on your vacation!

I think this is what we are going to do on Spring break as well. We wanted to try to get away because starting May 1 I work every single weekend until the end of October. But our property taxes are due, our house insurance is due, and we have a big loan payment due. So I think we will hang out around the house. We can go fishing at a nearby lake, eat out at the little places here, build a fire in our outdoor campfire ring and make smores, etc.
