One more week off........
and I go back to work! OMG I can't believe that it's time again! This winter has gone by so fast. I am NOT ready to go back. I don't know, I'm just not wanting to go this year. I know I HAVE to go to pay off some debts, but I don't want to. I haven't felt well all winter and I just don't want to deal with the crap of the other employees. I never wanted to be a working mom and I HATE working all summer and not spending it with my kids. Don't get me wrong, I'm very thankful to have the job and to be able to get things paid off. I know there are alot of people who can't find work and would jump at the chance to make some money. I guess I can hope that the summer goes by as fast as this winter did LOL!
Hopefully I can get us into good enough shape this summer that I won't have to go back next year. Although I will have dd going off to college that next fall so I might work one more year to put the money into savings for that.Last edited by WV_mom_of2; 03-27-2009 at 07:43 AM.

Hopefully, you go back to work and it isn't that bad! What do you do that you get the winter off?

I work in a state park campground. I work three days a week from the first part of April until May 1, then full time until Labor Day. Then I work every Saturday and Sunday until the end of October. This past summer was the busiest ever and I actually got to work 3 days a week in Sept. and Oct. most weeks. He also called me in for 4 days Thanksgiving week.
I like the job, just not thrilled with the two employees I work with(there are other employees but these are the ones I work with most). One is a maintainence guy who does NOTHING. He is very very lazy and spends days at a time just sitting. You can ask him to fix/do something and he will say "no, it's 2:00 and I get off at 4, better not try it today" or "No it's Friday and I don't work on Friday"(yet you are AT work and getting paid) or "I think that's a job for another day".
The girl I work full time with is just odd. She is nice, don't get me wrong. But she's very ummmmmm how to describe her? Backwoodsy? Not redneck, heck I'm a redneck LOL. She's very loud, abrasive, rude, I don't know. She doesn't try to act civilized in the office or with the customers. And her and the guy have known each other forever and they just act stupid together. They get on our Gator and ride all over the park screaming "yee haw" and laughing and they sit in the office and talk dirty all the time. It's very uncomfortable for me. Not to mention that I end up doing all the work! Makes for a very LONG summer.
We were absolutely slammed last summer and I've already been told by other state parks that they are already busier than they've ever been so I think it's going to be a LONG summer!S

That sounds like such a fun job! Well, except for the people. It stinks that other people can make or break your fun at work!
I don't have any advice for you on how to deal with it, but I can sympathize. When I worked at a credit union, we got a new manager. And the woman was just crass. No other way to put it. The best example of this... We used to have potlucks at work. And we'd all bring in our crockpots and rev them up. Then by noon, the place would smell absolutely amazing with all the different things cooking. So, customers would walk in, and say "What is that smell?" (meaning something smelled good) And the bank manager, would yell from her office (and I quote directly) "Oops, sorry that was me. I just farted." And she didn't just do it once...she did it every single time. To her it was the funniest running joke in history! So, I understand what you say about the girl being loud and abrasive. This lady was the reason that I left that job...and I've never been unhappy about leaving it!
Try to enjoy the outdoors this summer, and ignore them the best you can!

I love the customers (well most of them, the drunks I can do without) and the paperwork, running the camp store, etc. If I could do it ALONE I'd be in heaven LOL.
I do everything......I check in the campers, run the store, rent the boats and shelters, clean the shelters, clean the bath houses, sell the ice and firewood, clean the campsites, mow, etc. It's a hot tiring job!S

I hope things improve for you this summer!
Sounds like a really neat place to work!
I remember (I think it was last summer?) when you posted about all the problems you were having there with your co-workers. Still don't understand why the boss/owner doesn't do something about the good for nothing employees. Can't they see, don't they care that you are doing all the work and the others are slacking?

The boss doesn't care about anything. He is very rarely there and even when he is he's such a scardey cat that he wouldn't say anything to them. He's afraid of the guy and probably of the girl too LOL. He lets all the employees pretty much act like idiots and do what they will and won't do anything, even when guests complain. The teenage lifeguards are horrible and he just shakes his head and goes on about his business. He comes in for an hour or so each morning, then disappears. Then he comes around again for an hour or so in the afternoon and maybe again right at closing time at night. I work the 1pm to 9pm shift Thurs-Sat and I sometimes don't see him a total of 3 hours in three days. There are days during the week that he doesn't even show up at all. I choose to work that shift because on those three days the other two employees leave at 4pm LOL.
I actually had two offers from other state parks to come work for them this summer but they are so far away that it just wouldn't be worth it for me. I love it when other superintendents come and camp at our park and see how hard I work and say nice things. My boss doesn't believe in praise of any kind so it's nice to be recognized by someone!S

Isn't there a law about protecting workers against people talking dirty? You would have to file a complaint. People are not even allowed to tell dirty jokes because if someone who is within earshot doesn't like it they can report it. Please look into this for yourself.
Your job does seem like fun otherwise; plus you are right about having a job. Keep paying down the debt; you will never be sorry about keeping your job for that reason.
