Talking Jumping on the welcome wagon from CT

    Hello!
I've been lurking for a bit and am new to this forum - I wanted to say hello with this welcome questionnaire to introduce myself:

How did you hear about frugal village? Frugal for life blog (I love blogs!). I had previously been a member of the Frugal Living forum over at About.com, but mostly lurk for lack of time.

What interests you here? All the friendly frugal people that seem to be missing in my neck of the woods!

What will you contribute?Tried and true ideas, recipes, direction, etc. I have been a frugalista for 4 years now (since I paid down a $7K cc debt). We currently save 35-40% of our salary towards paying for house down payment and wedding, plus retirement.

Do you know any other members here? Not yet!

How many kids? Ages? No children.

Tell us about yourself.I'm 26 and live in Southeastern CT. I am an environmentalist, and sometimes my frugalism is good for the planet, and sometimes it is not (very hard to justify going all organic - too $$$ for my budget). I work full time, and live with my fiance. I love the outdoors, and hike whenever I can.

Do you own any pets? Two cats - one has chronic renal failure (kidney disease), so daily meds/injections are required. I'm like a vet-in-training!

Occupation?Marketing & Recruitment Assistant for a University, also work occasionally in retail for extra $, freelance services in computer/website help

    Married or single?Happily Engaged

Interests and hobbies? Hiking, gardening, reading, cooking, clipping coupons, organizing

    Cheers,
    Monica (sheepystitious)

Hi and welcome! I'm fairly new too, I joined earlier this month. Just curious, what is a Cash/Stash fund?? How is it different from your EF?? Does that mean you have cash on hand for "non-emergencies"?

    Smile Cash Stash

Ooh I love talking about my cash stash! My DH and I created a "cash stash" for a few different uses:

    1. It is a small amount of various bills and coins in case of emergencies

    2. It is an additional branch off our regular EF

    3. Provides us with a temporary personal ATM for yard sales, farmers markets, and other venues that don't take debit cards, since we frequent these types of local places but do not regularly carry cash on us.

This works for us and our lifestyle, because we're disciplined enough to keep putting money into the fund, too. We'd love to get this amount increased eventually, but it's just not a huge priority. It rarely goes below $500, btw, but I just purchased a used treadmill off craigslist (paid cash, of course). :-)

    Cheers,
    Monica

Oooo, I think that will be my new focus for my change jar. In addition to coins, I have started adding any one dollar bills to the jar as well. I can call this my cash stash!!! I like your idea of have a $500 goal to draw from. This will reduce my need for resorting to ATM withdrawals or withdrawal w/ purchases just because I need a few bucks. Thanks!
