Modern advertising
Ok..is the LITTLE GIRL in her underwear in the jockey ad creeping anyone else out?
She's about 12....no hips, no chest..and most telling of all..no waist. her cheeks are still all rounded. What on earth is wrong with advertisers these days?!
I keep seeing more and more of this where kids are being portrayed as normal adults. Is that just wierd?

What on earth is wrong with parents who allow their children to be photographed this way? This is such an issue for me... its almost time to take my kids swimsuit shopping and I always have such a hard time finding a suit for my EIGHT year old that isn't suggestive... and I've been having this problem since she was six and we left the toddler suits behind.

She didn't look like a kid to me. I guess I need to get my new glasses.

I have a 16 year old dd and we have a hard time finding nice swimsuits! She prefers the boy shorts and they are HARD to find here! I work in a state park and my office overlooks the pool and I am always shocked at what parents allow the girls to wear! Heck I'm shocked at what some parents wear LOL!

I guess I am lucky that i have boys when it comes to a swimsuit. Seriously, swim trunks is it...and if either of them ever come to me and ask to wear a speedo (unless the join a swim team or water polo or something) I'd be laughing so hard, we'd never actually be able to make it to the store to buy one!
Sometimes I think models stunt their bodies so badly with their diets that they look like children even if they are adults. I haven't seen this ad though, so I can't say much!

I haven't seen the ad (is it a print ad or a commercial?? kinda curious to see it now that you have mentioned it) but I agree with Momto2Boyz about the bodies of some models. As an example, my roommate in university was battling an eating disorder. She had no curves but quite a round face (puffy cheeks sometimes occur in those suffering from bulimia). She was also quite short and despite the fact that she was 23, because of her physique, she was often mistaken for a pre-teen. It certainly amused us, her friends, when people tried to kick her out of bars but it was a source of unending aggravation for her.
I've also heard rumours of advertising people using models who look very young in order to court/avoid controversy. (We aren't sexualizing children!!! This model is of age...we can't help that she looks young!!")I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)
I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!
2012 Financial goals
- make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
- pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
- bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
- avoid lifestyle inflation
- improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork
The Financial Goals I've achieved: increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

Actually...I'm going to add another thought here. Again, haven't seen the ad but assuming the girl is 12, with no curves/waist/hips/chest...there really isn't anything sexual about her body. Unless there is something that is sexually suggestive about the picture (is she modelling in a seductive way?), the biggest sexual thing about it is the connotation the viewer brings to the photograph. When I see kids that age running around at the pool, I don't think anything of their outfits because they're just kids. I would have more of a problem with this issue if Jockey was advertising a 15 year old (someone who isn't an adult but has hit puberty and is showing womanly curves) in her undies.
If we make a mountain out of a molehill, we feed the advertisers what they want...attention.
