Default Silly Question About Potato Peelings

What do you do with your potato peelings when you make mashed potatoes?Do you throw them out, give them to the chickens or what?? On Sunday, I made a big pot of mashed potatoes & used 10# of potatoes. I know this may sound a bit odd, but I put all of the peelings(clean & free of dirt) in a gallon sized zip loc baggie & put them in the fridge. The next night I fried the peelings like I would regular potato wedges - excellentI'd like to hear what others do with their potato peelings and left over's

I feed potato peelings to the pet rabbits. They love them! I also give them carrot peelings, cantalope peelings, the outer leaves from lettuce and cabbage, etc.

I use up leftovers by either sending them with dh in his lunch or eating them for lunch myself!

We wash our potatoes before peeling and then deep fry the peels then salt. A very tasty treat.

We just mash them in with the rest of the potatoes.

We've been doing that for years and saw recently on a cooking show that it's a "new" technique for making "gourmet" mashed potatoes. Yeah, whatever.

Love this idea of using them instead of clogging up the garbage disposal as I have been know to do - ugh!! How about cheese and salsa on top? Yummy!!

We do that, bake them with a little salt and papper and make potachos ...awesome. I don't tend to freeze them though, I thought they had a wierd texture afterwards.

But my neighbor is getting chickens so very soon...I'll feed them to his chickens.

Thevail, is that pronounced "poTAYchos" or "poTAHchos"???

This isn't a silly thread at all...I always just send my peels with the compost pickup but I KNEW there had to be something to do with them. I'll be watching for more great ideas!

If I don't mash the potatoes with the skins still on, I put the peels in my compost bin.

We used to toss them. Now I make potatoes with the peels still in them. The kids aren't too fond, so I might just take them and bake them with some seasonings in place of throwing them right out.

I like to bake them with a bit of olive oil, salt, and crushed black pepper. Other times I throw them out with the compost.

We feed them to the worms (we vermicompost) or if the worms don't need the food, they go to the normal compost pile.
