So proud of my kids!
We had a talk with the kids dd11 and ds13 about a month ago regarding the economy and cutting back on gift giving this year. They didn't say a whole lot at the time. I wasn't sure how they felt about the discussion. Well, the other day, my dd shocked me with her statement/question. She said that she knew that she wasn't going to get an Easter basket this year and that was fine but could we please make hot cross buns? That was her only request! Then yesterday my ds asked me how much I was budgeting for his birthday this year. (It's coming up next month) He said he didn't care how much it was he just wanted to know because he has been saving his money for an airsoft gun he really wants and he needs to know how many more lawns and odd jobs he has to pick up to reach his goal. He wants to calculate his birthday cash into the equation. I told him that he could probably count on half of what he got last year and he seemed shocked. He thinks it should be less. He knows we are very concerned about his dads job right now. I gave him a big hug and assured him that we could afford the amount I stated. I am just so glad that my kids "get it"! I had to share with all of you! I'm a proud momma!
Oh and BTW, they are getting a small Easter basket this year too. They will be greatly surprised!!Last edited by lovestolaugh; 04-03-2009 at 03:11 PM.

You should be one proud Momma. If only more children were like that it would be wonderful. It sounds like you are also one good Momma.

You should be proud and you should give yourself a pat on the back... they didn't become the kids they are without help from a wonderful set of parents.

It's always a relief when they understand! Obviously you two did a great job of explaining the situation to them
