Cool Hooray for unfrugal, but frugal minded neighbors!

We have neighbors who are pretty unfrugal. They don't use things up until they are no longer useful. When they get tired of something, they just buy a new one. But luckily for us, they are frugal minded. They know we are frugal and love freebies, so they always check with us before they toss something!

So DH and I have been planning on putting a small deck on the back of our house for about 4 years now. We just haven't wanted to spend them money to do it.

Talking to our neighbor yesterday, he told me he is going to redo his deck this summer and go to the Trex stuff that doesn't need to be stained every few years. He is going to keep the frame from the original deck, so rather than rip it apart, he is going to unscrew and unbolt everything careful, so he doesn't ruin the frame (the whole deck is less than 3 years old)

So, he asked me if we wanted the wood! Woo hoo! His deck is just a little bigger than we want ours to be, so we should have enough wood! So all we will have to buy is the wood to frame it and the gravel to put underneath it! He is giving us all the decking wood and all the railings and everything! I'm so excited that we are finally going to get our deck up this summer, and it won't cost us nearly as much as I had budgeted for! Plus, some neighbors and friends have offered to help put it up for us, so DH won't be doing it on his own!

I hope it all works out, and we can use the wood! I just had to share my super, freebie score!

wow! that is a super freebie score.....i've gotten stuff from the neighbors before (usually trash blown over from their yard) lol...but that is awesome....make sure you have a big BBQ when its up and have them over to 'visit' their old deck.....

Not only can we have them over for a BBQ...but when we grill it will be on their old grill! I swear, I have no shame...but they "throw out" perfectly good stuff! He bought a really nice ($500) gas grill and used it one season. He forgot to cover it for part of the winter and the lid got a bit of rust on it, so he bought a newer, more expensive one! Well, Dh couldn't let him throw the old one away! We've been using it now for 5 years!

That's fantastic Sarah! You must be soooo excited. I love neighbors that aren't frugalites and are willing to give away their stuff!
