Unhappy I'm worried about my blood sugar levels....

I tested it today (I've been pre-diabetic for years), and it was 151, after eating (about 1 hour or so...). Don't want to be diabetic...

Just keep on testing and being on top of what you eat. I was recently diagnosed with Type II. My doctor thought I was in the pre-diabetic stage, but the more she looks at my logs, isn't so sure anymore. I go for my big blood test next week.

Stay low on your carbs and high in your fiber.

Right now, my diet isn't particularly thrilling, but I know it's keeping me away from medications and shots. Here's a quick shot of what I eat:

Breakfast: Fiber One cereral w/skim milk
Mid-Morning Snack: Low-fat string cheese and 5 Wheatsworth crackers
Lunch: Whole wheat bread with turkey
Mid-Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt w/cut up strawberries
Dinner: Varies, but it's usually a ground beef dish or pork or chicken. Any rice is brown rice, any pasta is whole wheat/whole grain pasta. No potatoes.

I also like the Fiber One snack bars. The strawberry ones are pretty yummy.

Try testing 2 hours after eating and see what it is ~ that's when I test.

Oh yeah...I meant to write that, also. I second what Nancy said. My doctor tells me to test 2 hours after eating.

My doctor has me check mine two hours after each meal as well. Also, you may want to get a fasting blood sugar. Take it first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything.

As a diabetic I know that your ac1 score is the most important indicator of diabetes it show your sugar levels over the past three months You need to take a fasting glucose test When you wake in the morning test your sugar it should be below 105 and 2 hours after eating no higher than 140 if it is there is a problem. It may be controlled with diet and exercise or you may have to go on oral meds I hope its okay diabetes sucks but it is manageable and you do get used to it after the first shock wears off feel free to pm me I would be glad to help you

As Lora88 said you need to have your AC1 checked to see what the #'s are. My husband is diabetic and has been for several years. Doctor's want it to be at least under 7 to be safe. My dh's was 8.8 last time. He hasn't been taking care of himself. That has changed though and we go back April 28 to have it checked again.

Dh's trigger foods are not just sweets but potatoes, cornbread, and pinto beans or a lot of fruit. He loves fruit but fruit has natural sugars and it can run his #'s up if he overeats fruit.

I tested mine again. It was actually about 1:15 when I got to it, but I was being careful. My doc, an internist, says my blood sugars should be under 100. He did a blood test, with liver check, too, since I have slightly high cholesterol and blood pressure and am on meds for those. He said he'd call if there were any problems. It's been a month, and no word.

When I tested my blood sugars today, I'd not eaten anything since just after 7 am (okay, maybe a cough drop or two). Doc says if you haven't eaten for about 1.5 hours or 2 before a blood test, it's okay. (Course, I haven't mentioned I've been monitoring/worried about my blood sugars yet...).

Oh, you want me to tell you the number? It was 101 -- before eating lunch. Left the meter at my lady's house, though. Oh well. I'm there again tomorrow. She's a diabetic, and says that her doc, at the diabetes center, has said that if you're above 150 3 days in a row, you're a diabetic.

I was naughty yesterday, that's why my sugars were so high. Two of the Skinny Cow sherbet pops, and I think the sandwich was white bread (or at least mostly white flour). It was either yesterday or the day before that I'd had a big softball sized orange. Tasty.

I think my triggers, besides outright sugars, are carbs. Not so much fruits. I should get more of those.

Add a lot of veggies to your diet. I went low carb since December and my numbers are back in the normal range. I also have lost thirty pounds, so this helps too.

Being worried makes you test more. It was 117 yesterday after eating -- about 1.5 hours or so, no deserts. This morning, it was 101, before eating.

    Gotta watch my diet...
