    Default Phat Loot!

My 87 yr old client is downsizing from a 2 bedroom to a "retirement" single bedroom apartment. So I walked away with a dog bed (fairly new and she had her old dog put down since Ginger wouldn't transition well), ziptop bags of cat toys, 3 folding chairs, a wind chime, some glass Christmas tree coasters, and .... her CANNING POT complete with racks and some jars and lids!!!!!

She and I talk about all the things that have changed and how its become a throw away society. It breaks my heart to hear of what her daughter threw out when my client first downsized from her house : quilting frames, curtain stretchers, and loads of stuff that isn't used or appreciated by the masses in this day and age.

I am so lucky to know this woman. She has taught me so much practical information over the past 2 years. I hope I can repay her with canned good and fresh harvested veggies this summer.

You got a lot of useful things! IMO any day you can get something free that will be of great use to you that someone doesn't want any longer, plus keeping it out of the trash is a fantastic day!

My very first water bath canner was given to me 3 years ago by a little elderly woman at a garage sale who was shocked that someone my age actually enjoyed canning. Last year DH bought me a new one but I still use that old one that was given to me more so than the newer one, it just seems more special somehow.

DH and I actually associate more with people far older than ourselves just because it seems their way of thinking and the way they lived are far closer to our own ideas than people our age around here. I just soak up their knowledge and any advice they have to offer on anything and enjoy hearing any stories they have to tell of both good times and the bad. It's great to find someone like that to become close to.

Wow, how nice of her. I think that giving her some canning from her old canning pot would be a wonderful thank you. Have fun doing it!

Ceashels, I'm sure your client feels incredibly good about being able to give to you the things that have meaning to her. Just knowing that you want and appreciate that which holds fond memories for her must give her great comfort.
