Default Need Help/Info Regarding Pediatric Wheelchair...

A family has contacted our church (a friend of the Pastor's) with a request in assistance or information regarding purchasing a wheelchair for their disabled childen (caused by an injury).
We are a small church and just don't have the funds to assist them very much.

Does anyone have any information regarding purchasing or obtaining financial assistance for a pediatric wheelchair. I am assuming it's one that is the reclining type chair, but I don't know for sure.

Any any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please pray that we find an answer soon for this child and their family.

my son has been nagging at me to tell you that if this is the type you need, then I will give the child his. I have no idea how to get it to you, but I am offering. His is on the order of like this

not exactly, but something like it. It's red and black ( he picked the colors), and I can clean it up if you all want it. It's been sitting in my shed since he died in 2000.

I'll wager you can contact UPS or FedEx talk to their community service folks and get that chair shipped for free, Or a local Shriners group would get it moved.

Ohh brain storm!!! Anyone inyour area going to the NASCAR race at Talledga next weekend. They could get it there and its not that far to go from Guntersville. Bet their may even be someone from there going to the race.

If it is the right kind and Foxxy decides to take Thefrug up on her incredible offer you might also want to ask airlines that go between those two regions to see if they might offer a special cargo shipping rate since it is a "charity" type thing. Commercial airlines sell seats on planes but we also do a LOT of cargo shipping. They might not want to offer a special price on a "rush" shipment but, worst case in my mind, they might be able to take it on on a "available space" basis if there is flexibility on the required arrival day. So, if FedEx or UPS are unable to offer a reasonable option, talk to the Community Relations people at the airlines (better yet, if you know an employee who works at an airline between those areas, talk to them directly...at my airline, things that might get ignored by a community relations department often get "adopted" as a cause by employees and get pushed through after all).

    Best of luck!!

Hiya... I have an idea on how to get the the chair from point A to point B... don't laugh...

Contact the media... make a plea for a "Care-avan" (go ahead and use that if you want)... maybe there is a trucker leaving WV that can meet up with another one somewhere else... who can meet up with another one... until the much needed chair reaches the child...
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I love the caravan idea! Doesn't look like it would be coming through Illinois, or I'd be happy to take a leg of the trip!

I would contact shipping companies and see what they would offer. Many would be happy to have the free publicity in exchange for shipping it.

Also, maybe those of you here who are involved in your churches, could as your church members to take up a donation for shipping. I'm sure many, even in the churches who aren't direclty related to this little boy would love to help!

And reaching the shipping cost goal would be much easier than reaching the goal to purchase a new one!

There was an article in my hometown paper about a local child receiving a wheelchair from an organization that was found online. (The article came out yesterday oddly enough). The website was not mentioned in the article, but I just emailed the writer of the story to see if she has the information. If I get a reply from my email I will post in the thread.
