Glitches in new technology...LOL
So. Last week my Dad introduced me to twitter. I had heard of it, but since I dont have cell service out here, dismissed it. Well, he explained that I can use it on the web, etc, so I signed up. I found a few people and was on my way to being an official "tweeter".
So last night, about 8, I'm on twitter, and there is a message from my Dad that says "help stuck in an elevator fire dept on way k in a panic attack".
I, myself am now prepared to fly in to a panic, and tweet back "What are you saying!!", no reply, then two minutes later I tweet, "Hello! Are you ok? what are you talking about!"
At this point, I am beginning to freak out because A.) I dont understand what the @#$# is happenning. B.) Twitter isnt really the best forum to announce emergencies, and C.) Why the heck is my DAd in an elevator, he should be in bed!
Mass confusion all around. So then....
All the sudden my twitter refreshes itself, and I see a message FROM my Dad in BETWEEN all the messages I sent HIM, which says "Your mother and Karin and stuck in a elevator and you need to call her".
First off, she is in Bristol on vacation. Second, what, exactly, can I do to remedy this situation? So I disconnect the pc and fly to the kitchen to call her, no answer. So I then call Dad, he explains to me that he forwarded HER text message to ME via twitter. And that she is out of the elevator.
Needless to say, she and my godmother were stuck in an elevator at the Mircotel Inn in Bristol, and my godmother had a severe panic attack, and the fire department finally got them out. They are okay, but shaken. (obviously, I would have flat out panicked too.)
I just have to laugh sometimes at the modern technology which put me in this state of confusion. LOL!"That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Ok, I'm laughing and I'm not! When I was a kid, I got stuck in an elevator for 7 1/2 hours, so I totally understand the aspect of a panic attack in that situation!
I'm so glad they are ok. But I am laughing at the fact that via text and twitter was their way to go! I'm not sure I would use either of those in an emergency!
To me it sounds like sending an e-mail to the fire department when your house is on fire!

7 hours! OMG I would have died of claustophobia. About the text/twitter...yeah. My parents are so enthralled that they have an know how to use these things that they sometimes, well, act like teenagers. LOL

I wouldn't mind being stuck in an elevator for seven hours if I could choose who to be stuck with!

This would make a good thread.... along with the list for "people you definitely wouldn't want to be stuck with in an elevator for 7 hours".

How frightening you must have been for awhile and confused. I was just introduced to Twitter a couple of weeks ago too.
