Need some help please about potatoes
I have just seen that tomorrow one of our supermarkets is having a one day only sale of potatoes (of all things).
The price will be € 1 for a 10 kgs. bag which is I think $1.30 for around 22 pounds (please correct me if I am wrong).
Anyhow, I have enough place to store a lot but the trouble is that all these places are very warm and will stay that way till fall.
Can anyone give me some tips about the best way to store them considering my situation. Can I possibly freeze them?
Thanks!

I honestly don't know if you can freeze whole potatoes, I have done frozen mashed before. But considering you can by frozen fries and hashbrowns seems there should be away to freeze some potatoes like that.

Dutchie, just don't store them near apples or carrots.
The potatoes will cause the apples to have an 'musty' taste and the carrots will sprout and go bad.
As for how to store them?
I have a plastic laundry hamper that I bought for around $10.00 with the holes in both sides for the air to circulate through them.
Then I just store down in my underground basement.
I know you said you really don't have anywhere that is cool, but that is the best place for them.
Somewhere cool, dark and where the air can circulate through them.
I just bought a 50 lb. bag for $10.00 a couple weeks ago, I just couldn't pass up that price.Last edited by cheles2kids; 04-21-2009 at 11:17 AM.

I always freeze mashed potatoes and I use this recipe...
FREEZER MASHED POTATOES
5-pounds potatoes - wash and peel, or wash and leave the peel on - your choice
Prepare as you normally would for mashed potatoes, drain and add:
6-ounces cream cheese
1-cup sour cream
1/4-cup butter
I line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and using an ice cream scoop I place dollops of mashed potatoes on the sheet and quick-freeze them. When they are completely frozen I place the "dollops" in a FoodSaver bag and vacuum seal it shut. A zip-lock plastic bag would also work. You can also place the potatoes in plastic containers for freezing. I like the dollops because they thaw quickly and I can take out enough for one serving or as many servings as needed.
