Garage sales
Today i had to go into town and watch the grandsons, i stopped at a few sales before and after watching them. Im just shocked at the prices people are wanting for the stuff. These people need to understand its a tough time right now. Maybe they dont see it becuase its a 2 income family still have jobs. Here are some examples. mind you there were some i got some great deals on.
BAD PRICES
Onsies $1.00 to 2.00 each
boys 5t and 3t shorts from $2.00 to 6.00
coloring books used $1.00
Jeans for me $10.00
that was just some random things i remeber
I did get for myself.
8 snowmen stockings 10 cents each
orange and black feather tree (feathers for scrapbooking) 25 cents
35 packages of silk rose buds all colors ( scrapbooking) $2.00
misc xmas primitive wood items (mittens gingerbread men) i got like 12 items and paid $3.35
2 pair of levis for me $1.00 each
5 pairs of jean shorts for my grandson 50 cents each 5 shirts 25 cents each.
Huge jar of buttons (scrapbooking) at least 1,000 in the box $2.00
10 packages of party plates 15 per pack $ 2.00 (picnics)
This one lady had that celeste tea thats like $ 3.49 a box. she had 25 boxes of them none exspired she gave them all to me for $5.00.putting them in the freezer for next winter.
I might go back to sales tomorrow because most start tomorrow, there were 5 subdivision sales. If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal. Not to
people or things.

I've been to garage sales like that. Some people seem to think the purpose of a garage sale is to recoup whatever they paid for the item, no matter how old or used that item is.
On the bright side, at least you found some great bargains at the more reasonably priced sales. WTG!

You really got some great deals! Especially the articles you are going to use for scrapbooking!
Yes, some garage sales are outrageous but I just skip them knowing that they are going to be dragging most of that stuff back inside when the day is done!

Those prices are pretty high. I always price my yard sales so stuff will move. I may not make alot, but I don't have much left over.
I am excited about yard sale season starting. Last year I got a cherry wood queen sleigh bed frame for my daughter. It cost $30. I later found out the people selling it had their home foreclosed. Small town, you hear everything.

good i feel better....i've been pricing stuff all day.... i think i have done very well coz i kept asking myself "what would you pay for this ?" well since i won't pay much...i didn't put much of a price tag on the stuff.... almost every piece of clothing is $1 or less ...i could price them all higher and alot of it IS worth it...and people would pay more for some of the stuff but i decided to keep prices low across the board and they might tend to buy more.... (quantity vs quality here) lol... my goal is to move it all out....nothing left... friday will be reg price day...saturday will be 1/2 off....
doesn't matter what i paid for the stuff...doesn't matter what designer 'made' it...or if it came from wal-mart....its all gotta go...or i haul it off and get nothing....so i am biting the bullet.... and pricing it accordingly.....housewares and knick-knacks...same thing... .50 or .75.....if it's really really special it might make it to $1....but for the most part....none of it is that special in my eyes anymore....
be gone clutter.....

Woe! Those are high prices. I think a lot of people that normally wouldn't have a yard sale are having them...more upscale and they are thinking upscale pricing. I did have to laugh at an add I saw the other day...It said Upscale Gagage sale. I figure if its so upscale maybe they should learn how to spell Garage. LOL It just struck me as funny.

It annoys me to no end when people overprice everything at their yard sales. You can tell those are the folks that don't actually shop at yard sales... otherwise they would know better.

Maybe the people pricing stuff so high are trying to make money for some reason. (I'm trying to be charitable..)
I always take a good look at an overpriced garage sale, because sometimes they have some stunning things marked for the same $10 that they also have the regular stuff marked. But unless I see a steal..
I go to the other yard sales I'm going to, and hit the spendy ones on the backswing towards home in the late afternoon. They're usually willing to really play "let's make a deal" by then.

Hmm, those prices don't seem high for around this way. I've read that a yard sale item should be priced for 1/3 the original price. Some people buy the stuff at those prices, I see them at these sales with their arms full and I can't figure it.Frankly I pass on yard sales that are not priced to sell or at least priced to suit my frugal self. I once was at a yard sale where they were selling a VERY OLD, BROKEN!!!! Mr. coffee and they were asking $5 for it! Unreal, what would one do with a broken coffee maker???
If there was furniture in good condition you could expect to pay at least a 1/3 of the original cost if not closer to 1/2 the original cost. You could only buy a sleigh bed frame for $30 around here if it was so beat up that it required repairs and refinishing to be usable.
Even thrift stores are asking ridculous prices for fairly beaten furniture as well as clothing and housewares. An old mug or plate should never cost a $1 a piece unless it's china or collectable.~~~

Oh i see lots around in the summer here toothat want alot fpr second hand. I see yard sales and garage sales as getting rid of older stuff u dont want but not paying too much. Ialways pass by those places very quickly. I guess it also depends on how much the person wants the item and the cond. of it too.

I've been noticing that too, some people with their ridiculously high prices sometimes make me say out loud "Are they nuts?" I mean come on $10 for a cooking pot? $5 for a brand name t-shirt? Ummm I get it cheaper at the thrift shop. lol
