Would you do this?
Last year around this time I found a great tag sale of boys clothes for my son. I've been keeping an eye out but I don't want to miss it if they have another one this year.
I'm thinking of putting a note in the mailbox saying that I would interested in buying the outgrown clothes again this year and leave my contact info.
what do you think? would you do this or do you think its overstepping the good neighbor/privacy line or just plain out weird?Judy

Personally, it bugs the crap out of me when people use my mailbox for anything other than, you know...mail. And actually, I think it's a big no-no with the postal service. I hate finding cheap flyers and advertising that people have driven by and stuffed in my box.... almost as much as I dislike crap stuck in my door!
So no...*I* wouldn't do that.Stinkbug

Is it a neighbor, or just some random tag sale you went to in town?
I think I might be inclined to leave the note, say I liked the clothes and they were a great style and quality and would be interested in buying more. I think if I received a note like that, I'd be inclined to just give them to you, neighbor to neighbor. However, if it was just a random tag sale and you remembered the house, I'd be a little creeped out by it (like someone knew where I lived and knew I had a young son).

I also hate it when people use my mailbox for things other then its intended service. I also thought it was against the law to put flyers in a mailbox without the proper postage.
I don't know the age of her son but a thing to consider is maybe he hasn't outgrown anything. My son literally wore out a boys size 12 before he outgrew it. He wore that size for just over 2 years. Then he grew 9 inches in less than a year.Challenges

Personally, if I were the recipient of said note... I'd be a little creeped out.

Yeah, for me it would depend on if you knew the person or not.
But, I would ask around first for people looking to unload some of their kids' old clothing for free. Plenty of people in my area love to unload their hand me downs for free, and we have benefitted!!

Wow...what an interesting situation. My gut was to say, "Heck yeah...write the note!" Then, I read the responses and the one about being creeped out that someone knew where I lived with my young son kinda got me. So, keep your eyes open, I guess.

See next entry. I double-posted somehow and failed to find a way to delete my original entry.

I guess I'm in the minority here because I wouldn't be creeped out at all by a polite note of interest, particularly if you made mention of your last purchase and how much your son has enjoyed the clothing. If you choose to go ahead with it, I suggest mailing a proper letter to them rather than putting a note on their doorstep.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Now if you knocked on my door,Trapped me in the garage when I was leaving for work or my favorite personal experience- When a lady called me saying she had reverse phone numbered my address and would love my wood. I told her she couldn't have it. Then I would freak out. All I wanted people to do was pick it up off the roadside.
I think I agree about the mailbox, What I would do would be mail her a card on nice stationary. I would say. " I was at your garage sale last year and bought really nice boys clothes from you. If your interested I am looking for sz 2x-4x. I might even say if she knows anyone else please let them know. Resellers do this all the time by handing out business cards in our area. My phone number is.. No intrusion,no demand. I have people I talk to and they have said I was thinking of you when I was putting these out. It's not like your peeking in her windows. This is how networking is born. I was thinking of making up business cards for myself. I always carry a list with me. People grab the list and sometimes grab things from the house. It's a stitch. Garage sales are social network for me. Was this lady friendly or formal?Last edited by frugalwarrior; 05-04-2009 at 06:12 PM.

I'd be annoyed if I got a random note like that. Just because I had a yard sale once, doesn't mean I'm interested in entertaining requests from past buyers.

You can always sign up for freecycle in your area. You get emails about what people have to offer. Clothes are really popular, they are all free. Plus there is alot of great stuff out there too. Plus you can get rid of your clutter too.

I am a retired postal worker and believe me, it is illegal to place anything in a mail box that doesn't have the proper postage on it!
