car/truck insurance
Hubby just found that when our sone gets his liscence if we want to get insurance on the car for him it will be over $3600 yr. OMG
he has to earn it they said then it will lower down if no tickets accidents. unless we get rid of the little car and out him on the truck then its $800. 1 car per household as part time driver.
Hubby said he aint getting rid of the car he just got it and thats all its worth lol
Plus kid aint allowed he said to use his truck (baby)lol
so If son wants insurance to drive car he needs to get job and pay $300 month . he has 1 yr till beginners will run out.Last edited by miss_thrifty; 05-07-2009 at 02:40 PM.

Yes, car insurance is extremely expensive (especially in Canada) for teen boys. Welcome to the club!

Auto insurance for teens is expensive. When my son was a teen, we combined auto and home, he had to maintain a good grade average and he paid for driving lessons. All of those things reduced his insurance by about 30%. And, yes, he paid for his own insurance.

I don't understand insurance companies at all!!!! I had 4 kids and our insurance did not go up so much as a dime when they started driving. You might want to consider checking around at other insurance companies, not all insurance companies gouge parents like your's apparently does.
That being said, if you can't find an insurance company with much lower rates you might want to consider not allowing your son to get his driver's license. It would suck for him, I know...but, there isn't a rule anywhere that says parents have to let their kids get a driver's license just because they can."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." My son waited until he was 19 to get his licence and our insurance still went up over $200 a month. He will be 21 in June and it is down to about $160 now. Of course our dd will get her license in Aug. and she will just be 16 so I am really dreading seeing the price.

that's outragous. we had travers insurance and when i had an accident, a fender bender they dropped us like a hot rock. nobody wanted to insure us because of my accident for a decent amount. we ended up going to an insurance agent and he found us a great deal with progressive. it was far less than we were paying with travelers to start with and after i was a year past the accident it dropped even further. it paid to get an agent in the mix.
