Default Any advice for replacing our roof?

We have family coming to help us replace our roof in a couple of weeks. Any advice or tips we should know about? Everything is ordered and dh is going to the store this weekend to get smaller stuff we need. I just want to make sure we are prepared and do a good job. Thanks!

I second the magnet. You may be able to rent one on a roller because the nail hide really well. We still find nails almost a year after we had our roof done. If you have small children, it may be best to go on a "field trip" during the nailing. Ava was about a year old and it startled her when they were nailing our paper and shingles down.

Are you having the shingles rooftopped? Also an air nailer will make it much easier. When my dh gets home I will ask him if he has any more ideas. He did my roof 2 years ago and used to do them all the time. Do you have a harbor freight near you? It seems to me that is where my dh bought his because the price was better.

We replaced ours last year. I went on the internet and researched options. 20/30 year shingles. What is flashing? all about underlayment, color does it matter temperature wise. How many roof vents should I have? Is a roof vent better than several smaller vents. Blah,Blah. I stopped at a garage sale and met a lady who recommended someone who was excellent. Do you need your chimney redone. I ended up replacing flashings, the cap and the orange stacks(forgot the name). The guy who did it did commercial and was excellent too. (except that he was older and kept looking to talk to my husband). You want to make sure your shingles are not even partially organic and how the manufacturer warranties them. Will homeowners cover your roof in case of damage if you do it yourself?
Thats all I can think of. Don't forget to save your reciepts for tax credit.

I never thought of replacing my roof but even I am a little bit curious about doing it.
