Post My random thoughts on generousity sharing and working together

I have been thinking alot about generosity, sharing and working together.

I was thinking about our local zoo- free to everyone basically though people that shared their time and money

The dog park and local children's park that was built and is free to all through people sharing time and money.

The children's summer movies at the theater that were canceled by the company because it didn't have enough money or it didn't make them enough money didn't fit in their bottom line.
But the local business and community came together to donate enough money to pay for the movies for the theater and provide low cost movies for the summer.
( In one town that I heard of, the business and wealthy individuals got together and paid for the movies so that anyone could show up to the movies on Saturday in Spring and winter and watch the movie for free)

The church that comes together to provide a free Thanksgiving dinner to anyone in the community.

The group of ladies that deliver food to shut in older couples.

The local handicapped group that excepts donations of broken and used toys so that they can clean them up and fix them and then offers them for free to any child that shows up and asks for a toy up to two toys a week.

It just seems to me that when people are generous with their time and/or money, want to share, and come together great things happen.

Imagine what could happen if this mind/heart set, this thoughtfulness, this selflessness caught on like wild fire. Imagine what could be done.

Michigan being in such a state is coming together in ways I wouldn't have thought possible. A new thing here is free neighborhood exchanges. I'm not sure how it all works but I think it's like a free garage sale for people in the neighborhood. I see plant exchanges going on too.
One high school was sponsering a clothes closet for people who couldn't afford prom wear.

    Wonderful things.

Thanks for sharing what others are doing with their generosity, sharing and coming together.

Love your post, Imagine. Everyday I hear about people helping others and the power of giving. Recently a woman was just passing through our city on her way home. She is terminally ill and wanted to make it home to be with family when she dies. Unfortunately, her Uhaul truck was stolen from the parking lot of the hotel she was staying in, with all her possessions and medications. When the story was on the news, many people came forward wanting to help her in some way. It's wonderful to hear about such generosity of spirit, despite the tragedy that elicited it.

    Thanks for your post.

A local church here has set up a clothing closet. And about once a month, has a free clothing giveaway day - like a garage sale, but no money involved.

We are putting in a lot bigger garden this year. I told hubby the extra stuff that we can't can or freeze fast enough, that we could give some away to friends and family. One relative, we swap a lot.

I been doing some knitted baby hats for charity work this past year.

Sharing extra garden stuff what a great idea. I loved it when we first moved in to our new home and neighbors brought extras from their garden over. What a nice present and a great way to meet our new neighbors, now friends.

I'm betting the hats you knit are wonderful.

I have heard about clothing closets. But the ones I have heard of where for a closed community or group like Seminary students and their families. Wonder how the one that you mentioned is run.

    Thanks for sharing your stories.

Yes! In our town.. there are community celebrations almost every month of the year... starting with community easter egg hunts and ending with the Christmas parade... all run by volunteers.

And then there are many sevices for the needy and homeless. Food closets, food bank and roving sandwich and soup trucks my children and I volunteer for this one monthly, it helps the invisible become human).

    it is amazing isn't it?

Yes it is amazing what can be done when people share their time and or money. When we come together.

It's great that you are getting your children involved.

we are in a recession but most of my neighbors filled the bag for Postal Service food drive this Saturday. That made me really proud to live where I live.

I don't see the good deeds in my town as much as I do in my neighborhood and at my church. One of my neighbors lost her husband about a year ago, so now the neighbors take turn mowing her grass & weeding. My church sponsors a free meal every other Thursday for anyone who wants to eat. I know there are others but these 2 come to mind right now.
