I need some ideas
I am currently on medication for my fibromyalgia and one of the side effects is an appite supressent. I have been lossing weight before starting this med. My problem is that I am down to 100 and dont have any more to lose. I eat 3 to 6 times a day and have a hard time getting the calories I need.
I am hoping that you guys can give me some ideas to help me keep me from lossing any more weight. I am not able to use any of the protein shakes or anything with alot of vitiamins in it. These make me verry sick. If I loss any more than the Doctor will not refill my meds and I have tried all others for my condition. Any ideas will be helpfull..

What is the name of the med you are taking?
Can you fill in snacks with empty calories, such as ice cream or those little hostess cherry pies have 400 calories...(aldis has their own brand of these, too).Sandy

Can you drink milkshakes? Regular ones, not the nutritional supplements. Lots of calories without having to resort to greasy food.
When I lost too much weight I started drinking a beer every night; but that's probably not good advice

Have you talked to your Dr. and asked for suggestions?
How about consulting with a nutritionist?
:goodluck: I hope you find the answers you need.

My mom used to have to eat candy bars between meals. How about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as a snack?

Peanut butter is great if you can eat it. If you're struggling with volume though, skip the sandwich and just eat it with a spoon. 90 cal per tbsp, it's an easy way to get a lot of calories without stuffing yourself. Much less work than trying to get through all that bread in a samdwich. If you don't like pb try nutella.

Milk shakes, yogurt (you can freeze it to make smoothies w/), PB is good and easy.
Besides the nutrition shakes is there any food that you can't eat?

I have a similar issue. For me when I am at my sickest, I turn to baby food. It doesn't seem to make me feel as sick as my system isn't working as hard to digest it. I make a pot of soup and will puree it to make it easier to go down (and stay down). I try to space it out too- 1/2 cup every 30 mins or so. That seems to help more than trying to eat too big a meal. I also try to fill out the edges (after making sure the nutritional needs are being met) by eating pudding or popsicles.

There are alot of things That I cant eat. Milk is one I can only tolerate about 1/2 a cup a day. I was drinking pop but realized that this made me feel worst. So that was about 500 calories that I need to replace. I have tried the nutritionist and all they seem to tell me is more protien and the shakes.

Are you lactose intolerant by any chance? Is that why you can't tolerate much milk? If so, have you tried Lactaid ice cream? You can't even tell it's not the real thing, and the calories are close to regular ice cream too.
And I know you said you can't do protein shakes, but I am not sure if you mean like the ones from the health stores, or if you mean something like Ensure. Ensure is delicious, and they have quite a few calories too.
I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. I hope you find a solution soon

I don't know if there is much to do about it, other than beefing up on protiens, and empty calories. I've never seen anyone NOT loose excessive weight on that medication. I used to work as a pharmacy tech. in another life...
A lot of people use the ensure drinks and things of that nature to beef up calories, it may slow down the weight loss. I'm not sure if it was Dr. suggested, or a self initiated trial. It would probably be best to run it by your doctor what ever you choose. Strange things can interfere with medications - I wish I could offer more, but you may find someone with more experience with it here http://chronicfatigue.about.com/
