Hello from The Great White North!
How wonderful to find this website!
I'm a single Mom of two boys. I'm thrilled to say that I'm soon to have an empty nest! (well, okay, I'll miss them some of the time!)
However, I feel like I'm starting a new book, not just a new chapter.
I'm excited to think that I'm one step closer to living in the boonies in a shack! (no one seems to believe me!)
I have a dog and cat sharing my home with me (and my youngest son still for a while) After stumbling across urban farming and back yard chicken websites, I have a few chicks on order for the beginning of June. Oh, and I just bought a few goldfish to put in the container pond I'm working on.
I've been getting more and more environmentally conscious as the years go by. "Frugal" is a necessity of life for me. I'm loving that I'm coming across more and more people, more and more information of ways to become more... well, more *everything* that's important to me.
The Harrowsmith magazine and more precisely, the 1st Harrowsmith Reader, were cornerstones that my dreams and aspirations were built on. (I always felt a special affinity for the Harrowsmith magazine as it's beginnings were within 1/2 hour from where I live)
I sometimes feel as though I live in a bubble; I have very few people that I can share my feelings or thoughts with, with regards to my environmental concerns, my desire to a more 'green' and simple lifestyle. The only Joneses I envy are the ones that already live in the boonies and have a goat!
I dream of finding friends to share a coffee and yack with about the things that are important... to me.
I'm off to join the "Canada" portion of the forum. If anyone is "up here" with me, come say hello! Hey, even if you're not, please do say hello anyway!
peace,
Maija
