I just got us pre-approved for a VA mortgage. I hope the amount will be enough for this area. I didn't think I could get it with us already having a VA loan on our house in Alabama. I'm happily surprised.

I hope you're able to find something decent in your budget for the house hunting. Is there plans to rebuild more suitable housing on base, or are they just getting rid of one of the few benefits offered to military famalies? My earliest memories are of living on base (well, really close to it) in military housing. It really helped, even with us kids. We had our own school and everything (am I giving my age away here?)

Put offer in on this estate sale (in same neighborhood, same floor-plan but 3 bedroom/2 bath). On market 11 days.

Wish us luck!
We've found a rental house that we like as well. The owner is former military and he's still finishing up renovations. It's our back-up. If the offers don't get accepted quickly without to much fuss or back and forth we won't have the time we need. We don't want to go into storage. We'll try to get this rental. He'll take a 3 year lease w/ a military clause so we won't be anxious about not being able to renew it.
All 3 houses are in the same school district as my son's elementary school and he can do an intra-district transfer back to his elementary school. He won't lose his friends!Last edited by guest002; 05-18-2009 at 12:33 AM.
