Unfortunate, costly news for us
Our landlord isn't renewing our lease in July. We have to move AGAIN! I'm so over moving. We moved in 7/07, 7/08, and now 7/09! And we could get orders to move as early as summer 2010!
ARGH!
The USAF only pays for 1 move per duty assignment so this move is all us. SUCKS! Not to mention I have to come up with new deposits as I won't get mine back fast enough to help w/ anything and I don't have that $$ in the bank. I have to lower all of my credit card payments to get the cash.
It's hard to find an acceptable rental here in the right school district.
I'm going to be calling in all the favors I have. My dh has helped at least 3 other folks in his office move. I'll have to get help.
Did I mention how much I hate house hunting?
I'm going to start orgainizing this weekend and get ready for a yard sale the 1st weekend of June.
We have to cancel our Memorial Day vacation and shorten our vacation we were going to take in June for our 10th anniversary. I'm not going to cancel that as I've already promised the kids Disneyland and my son is already so upset to have to move again. He just made friends here.

No preschool, no summer camp, no making plans...

That's awful! Are you not able to live on base? DH and I did for the six years that he was in, and it made a huge difference for us. Way easier to budget for too, no rent or utilities to worry about!

Sorry to hear about this.
For me though if it were a case of not having the funds to move and going on a planned vacation, I'd be putting off the planned vacation till things turned around. Disneyland isn't going anywhere. Sometimes one has to sacrifice when an emergency comes up.

Our son-in-law is in the Army (since 1993 - plus 5-years Army Reserves before that and our daughter was Air National Guard for 3-1/2 years), so they have always kept a "moving (AGAIN) savings account" because she knows they will be using it sooner-or-later. It's been a priority to keep this account in tact for them.
She adds money to it just before the move by eating food they have stockpiled, and only buying what is needed fresh, and having a HUGE garage sale or taking things to an auction.
After living on-Post they prefer living off-Post - for a LOT of reasons.

So sorry Paula! I hope you find something soon and close to where you are now so your son doesn't have to lose his buddies.
