We did a drive-by tonight......
Yep. We packed some freshly made brownies (with frosting, even!), and drove by a friend's house, dropped in and handed her the brownies. It was a total surprise and we ended up just chatting for a couple of hours. What fun for all of us!
Why don't we do more of this? Just drop in on family or friends, be neighborly, share some brownies and chat........ For us, I guess it is we got too busy, or we were afraid that we would be interrupting other people's busy schedules.
Do you do drive-by's? Just drop in?Spiritual:

How nice of you! Sounds like fun. We don't because everyone stops here and we can never seem to leave because of them.
There is never anyone home since they are all here!

Sounds like fun!!
I personally don't like drop-ins...but even a call 15 min beforehand would do it for me!
(I stay in my jammies when I'm at home...a drop in would be embarrassing
).
Glad you had fun!

That's the way neighborhoods used to be - the world has changed.
I dropped in on my neighbors a few weeks ago and we all loved it. I will love it more as soon as I finish cleaning up the major clutter.
Personally I think we all need to slow down and reconnect with people in anyway that has meaning.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

I actually do that on occassion. Now that I am in weight loss mode, I can't eat my own baked goods anymore. So whenever I bake something up, I usually run it around to friends and neighbors and share with them. However, I always drop things off with the intention of not staying. I just never want to put anyone out or bug them! So we just drop stuff off and go. It does keep us in contact with friends though. And usually leads to a phone call or get together!

I really miss this aspect of my life. Growing up, we always went visiting, stopping by my great-aunts house to see what was going on there. On an average Saturday, if you sat long enough, you saw just about everyone in town. We used to call my grandmother's house "Grand Central" for that same reason (sometimes she even answered the phone "grand central!").
Now I long for those visits, those change encounters, gossip and good times. I love it when my neighbor comes by and visits while she's out walking her dog. She says "young people don't know how to visit anymore, they are always so busy!" We are busy, and I suppose about 50% of the time I'd be mortified by how the house looks, but I would always welcome guests.
So, ForHISGlory, I'll put the teapot on the stove, you can come by with Brownies anytime!

Sounds like a nice time!
I'm glad that more people don't do drop-ins though. Working fulltime, my weekends are full of catching-up. Uninvited/unannounced guests could really throw a wrench in my plans. I'd of course welcome them graciously, but I wouldn't be happy about it. Not even for brownies.Last edited by The Muse; 05-18-2009 at 12:05 PM.
