Unhappy OH NO! DH hours have been cut back!!

He will be working only 4 days a week...

They have laid off so many employees at his job and now they are starting to cut hours...

I don't know what to think...

I guess I should be thankful he still has a job still because we really need his medical benefits for our 11 yr. olds diabetes supplies... we would not be able to afford all her needs on our own..

This is like a 20% pay cut.

    I am very worried.

I'm sorry Holly! BTDT and totally understand. Thing positive and prepare for the worst. I know that sounds bad but if a job loss does occur you will be more prepared

I'm sorry this happened. Hoping work picks up soon and it doesn't go from bad to worse. I know you must be worried with your daughter's diabetes.

Hugs, I'm sorry about his pay cut, but like you said he still has a job and that is what counts, especially in today's economy.

Boy Hollyhill, you have taken some hits lately. From personnel experience God has something new for you in mind. Remember, have faith. Things will appear out of the darndest places. When my husband was sick I needed $200. to finish the floor in the room I was making for him to sleep in. A check for exactly $200. appeared in the mail from my sister-in-laws mom and dad. I didn't know them and had mentioned this to no one. My prayer to God had been simple. "Now what God"? Isn't their a diabetes foundation you can pre-contact to put yourself at ease.

So sorry to hear this. I totally agree with frugalwarrior. God will be with you every step of the way, keep your faith in Him. You are in many of our prayers, so please trust God that he does not give his faithful followers more than they can handle.

Hang in there hollyhill, my DH last his job in 2000. Went to trade school.
Started his own business in 2002, no we will never be rich, but things aren't so bad. He loves his work and is so much happier doing it. We were spenders back then, and suddenly we became frugal. I love it. We are actually saving money now, saving the earth, using everything, and wasting nothing. We plant a huge garden, can, freeze, raise chickens, and craft gifts. I never buy at regular price. Sale, Sale, Sale. It's fun to challenge yourself to see how much you can bank each week.
    Good luck!

    Thank-you.

I've been there before too. Six years ago Dh lost his job and he returned back to school to retrain.... we are worse off now though because of the student loans we amassed during that period. And my daughters diabetes means we are now dependent on extended benefits...
It was very hard then.... it would be even harder now...

Sorry things are a struggle for you right now.
Is there a possibility you might be eligible for food stamps or medical help thorugh social services for your family ? It never hurts to ask. And if not, maybe the people you ask, might have some other suggestions.
Also, are there any free food outlets in your area, sometimes located in churchs or the Salvation Army ?

Maybe your hubby can pick up some "odd jobs" - deliver pizza, mow lawns, handy-man jobs, clean gutters, painting, window washer, etc.... Our neighbor had his hours cut and he's been busy as an umpire at baseball/softball games to help out, and his wife works some extra hours when she can.

My hubby took a large pay-cut 2-months ago, but still works as many hours because he's paid a salary. After 34-years with the same company, it's worth it all just to keep our benefits. We're cutting where we can and putting away as much money as possible. We've helped out other family members who weren't so lucky. We've all got to stick together!

Sorry to hear about this. My DH had to take a paycut back in November. We figured that 20 percent of something was better than 100 percent of nothing. Sending your hugs and prayers your way.

My dh has his own construction business, so he doesn't get unemployment and business is so slow he is working nights stocking shelves at a grocery store to make ends meet. And ends only meet if he get a construction job. I had a kidney transplant and we pay our own insurance. I'm telling you all of this to let you know you are not alone and I absolutely believe like some of the other posters that things will work out if you have faith.

Thank-you..... I know it can be done as before...
I agree 20% cut is better than %100 of nothing.... especially with benefits!
I can just not imagine not having medical benefits just now it is like my nightmare realized...

I just happy that DH's company is still going their motto is to be the lst one standing and the first one to rise... so if the company can just see this economy through...

Part time work will definately be an option for all of us, thank-fully both my teens are already working part time (one is coaching the other doing garden work)... so they can pay a lot of their own way. We've raised them frugally and responsible.. all our financial down turns have made them wise.
