Really Bad Haircut
I know its only hair, but I'm quite upset over how short my bangs are. Honestly, she tends to cut my bangs shorter than I want if I don't tell her exactly how I want them. What makes it so bad is I have been going to her for years. I did tell her how much to cut off the length, but then she started talking about something to the lady she had finished before me & I forgot to tell her to leave my bangs longer. It drives me crazy how upset she gets over whatever issue she's talking about & just cuts & cuts. The lady talking with her even commented how she was glad she was done w/her hair.
I think I need to change stylist, but it would cost double to go to someone else. DH is happy with the way she cuts his & he says mine looks fine. I hate it! How can I get her to stop talking & cut my hair the way I want? Really, I get a decent cut when she focuses on the style I want & doesn't discuss whatever has her mad this week. Any thoughts or advise? Feel free to share a bad haircut story.

I'm a stylist, and it's very rude for her to be talking to people other than you, while cutting your hair. I would speak with her boss and let her know the problem. Tell her that you have been going there for years and would hate to move your business elsewhere, but it's very important for the stylist to listen and do exactly what the client wants...Because honestly the stylist is shaping the person's appearance. Maybe you can switch to a different stylist within the same salon...that way you can still pay the same price for the haircut...but maybe get someone who is more focused on the customer and not the latest gossip!

I agree. Its very rude for her to be talking to other customers or employess. I would request someone else and she does ask why just tell her you have been coming to her for years and has a client she should be asking on the style or shortness.

She runs her own shop. So, I think I'll need to change salons since she's sort of "hot headed" & tends to cut & cut & cut. Plus, she's always after me to cut my hair shorter (shoulder length would look so much better on me according to her). I like her, but she always has something she's upset about & sometimes she takes it out on my hair.

Yeah then I would definitely change salons. Call around find out if the salon's have any specials. The salon I work for has "women's" wednesdays...where the haircuts for women are discounted...Maybe you can find something similar!

this recently just happened to me. my bangs are so short. I do like them alittle shorter than she normally cuts them but with this haircut she cut them super short! I would change to a different place if I were you. good luck and remember it will grow out soon.

janie-- ai agree with above comments- i would go some where else. since she doesnt seem to enough respect for your opinions and keeps telling you ewhat would look good, shorter. customers are always right when they want it acertain way even if it looks good or donet. theyre paying. so yeah she shouldnt be talking.

Are there other stylists there? I'm a stylist and I swear I had too look at your location because my boss is exactly the same way. I do several of my bosses old clients for the reasons you describe. It works quite easily if there is another stylist there. Just go when the boss isn't working.
One of my bosses old clients asked me flat out if I could cut her gair when the boss wasn't in. Sure I could. She liked it and asked how could she keep coming to me without hurting the bosses feelings.
First off it won't because A 1 priority is keeping the client in the salon. However I told her if it came up just say "she couldn't wait one more minute to get it cut so she stopped to have one of the staff do it and loved it and my schedule works so well with hers. Problem solved (for her)~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I'm sorry. It happens to everyone and it's frustrating.
Last fall, my regular stylist hacked my hair...seriously, the person who fixed it said it looked like he didn't even finish the cut. I ended up having to cut it very short and it's only now almost shoulder length again, which is where it was when he hacked it. Did I mention I was growing it out at the time, too?
Initially, I went back to him so he could fix it, but he made a scene about me "not knowing how to style it", so I left and my credit card company ended up reversing the charges.
I'd change salons, even if it costs more. I'd rather pay more and get my hair cut less often and have it look good, than to save $$$ and hate my hair everyday.

First off who wants to go to a stylist that is ranting all of the time. I consider it a treat for myself to go get my haircut. Once in awhile my stylist will cut my bangs shorter than I want but that is when I forget to remind her. I would do as everyone said either change salons and use coupons when available or if there is another girl in the salon make an appointment with her.

We changed dentists for that very reason. They act like your furniture. I'm not a princess but I expect people to pay enough attention to get it right. I would also send her a card telling her politely but succinctly why I left.

If she's going to "take it out on your hair", then no conversation is possible, because if she's upset with you.. your hair will probably suffer. I'd switch.

I just changed stylists. I've been going to mine for 16 years!!!! Finally, I just got fed up. She's cheaper than most places, but I was tired of her acting like I didn't exist. She cut it the same no matter what I requested....and the the topper was the new boyfriend who was there constantly, chatting with her!!! Ugh. She became harder and harder to book appts. with (they only book their own clients at the salon, so if I called and she wasn't in I had to call back) Seemed she had always *just stepped out* and I was tired of the run around. I'm now paying more, but I really like the gal, she's actually the only sylist in the shop....it's a hair care product store in the mall. When she colored my hair ($$$$) it was by far the best, most natural coloring I've ever had.
So yeah.....it's a pain to find a new stylist, and it will probably cost more....but now I just go longer between cuts and pay for a cut I LIKE!Stinkbug

If you do choose to return to this stylist, would it be possible to address things in a humorous way but still get your point across? Before you ever sit in the chair, you could joke that you want to make sure you call a time out if she gets passionate on a subject again, because last time your bangs paid the price! If she's cool with a gentle reminder, I'd consider remaining her client, but if she goes on the defensive or becomes snappish, I'd move along.
I used to go to a stylist who once cut my bangs too short and basically argued that they were "perfectly angled" and told me to keep a barrette in them until they grew out. No apology, nothing. So I moved along.

I'm glad she's not using a straight razor around your ears and neck while she's not paying attention.I'd find someone who listens. I hope you aren't tipping this woman. I have the same problem when it comes to my bangs, I hate that Hitler look some stylists seem to think looks so cute! I finally started telling anyone cutting my hair I want my bangs the same length as the rest of my hair. My bangs are now down to the small of my back. I really need to get something done to my hair but I keep putting it off because I can't decide wether to just get it trimmed, about 6 inches, or get it cut, about 12 inches, for fear I won't like the outcome.
