Hello from British Columbia with a desire to learn from all of you
Hello everyone,
I found this site as I get the online newsletter from Mother Earth News, which I love because I have longed to live off the grid for such a long time but I've never been able to afford the property necessary to do so. I still love to learn and hope that one day I'll be able to do it, which of course brings me to the Frugal Village because I want to be able to save as much as possible.
So if there is anyone out there living my dream, I sure would love to hear from you for ideas and to avoid some of the same pitfalls you might have encountered.
Oh, and I also do animal rescue so as my self-employment income goes to support that, any ideas on how to cut costs and live healthier can benefit in so many ways.
Hope to make some new friends.
Jackie

Groundhog and Danni,
I was raised in Surrey, lived in Langley and Maple Ridge after I got married and then moved to the Okanagan, where I got divorced, LOL, lived there for 10 years and three years ago I moved to the beautiful Cariboo, 100 Mile House area, because there are so many lakes and trails to enjoy. I bought an old house on 2.5 acres, which backs onto Crown land, but sadly paid too much for it when the market was hot. Now sadly it looks like I'm going to lose my house as my work has slowed down so I'm desperately trying to sell it before the bank takes it, very shameful. My immediate hopes are for the sale of my house and to buy a motorhome so at least I've got something for me and my rescue dogs and cats and my rescue horse and donkey will have to be boarded. This is all until I can work hard ONCE AGAIN to save up enough just for a bare piece of land that I can buy outright so nobody can take it. At least then I'll be doing the homesteading that I've always wanted to do anyway. So if anyone knows of a cheap motorhome out there please let me know. Well now you know everything about me, LOL.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck caribooliving, but you sound like you have a plan in the works. I hope everything works out for you, and a buyer comes along fast or work picks up and you can stay put.
