Are You Ready For Friday???
The big day looms on the horizon and we are nervous. We tried hooking up our DTV box 2 days ago and not a single channel came through.
unless the signals become really strong it looks like we are going to be without tv. I'm not sure I'm ready for that 4 people and no tv and only 1 person has access to the computer at a time??? Oh boy, I can hear the fussing already.
Anyone else not ready and not going to be ready?~~~

you have to actually go through all the channels in the setting mode on the box. you have to program the box. my son did this for me.I don't know how to do it myself. also since it's digital once you program the channels you might have to adjust the antenna to get a channel in .for me it was only a channel here and there. you should get around 20 channels in and it comes in just like cable. maybe you can get someone to do it for you.have you read the directions? you have to use an antenna.I would try a few different kinds to see what works best and then return the ones that don't.

We scanned for channels, but I think we need a roof top antenna. We had it hooked up before and we were able to get 1 in well, but now that the trees have leaves, nada.

We live in a valley between two hills, and I know we'd get nothing....so we have the most basic cable still. I might try unhooking the cable and just see what we get on Friday. If we do get channels, it would be tempting to cancel cable. Will wait and see.

One of our local stations switched to DTV earlier this spring. There have been a few in very rural areas who've found out the hard way it's not just a matter of the free-gov't coupons for the converter boxes...they have to spend $100 or more on roof top antennas and signal boosters (or whatever they're called).

We have a rooftop antenna... and get TWO digital channels consistantly. We used to get about 9 analog, so I'm not real happy. I'm waiting to see if the signal increases this weekend, but if not, we will be getting internet service at the house this summer, anyway, for DD10 (had an incident this past school year where she couldn't study for a test because we didn't have internet access at home - apparently teachers no longer allow elementary school kids to bring home their books!), and a zeevee box to use internet instead of cable.
I already do netflix & with all the channels online, hulu, etc, who needs cable anyway?

We set ours up when we got the box; before the last deadline. We do have extra channels. The problem we are having is that on some of the channels it keeps going out saying there is no signal. My brother contacted the people (in the know) and they said we may have to adjust our roof antenna. I have also heard we may have to get another antenna. Has anyone else had any of these issues?

we bought an indoor antenna last Christmas and it helped tremendously.
FYI alot of stations will upgrade their actual antennas this week so alot of the signals will be stronger.
Remember to rescan Friday after 12:30pm

The big switch to dtv. We really wer hoping our rabbit ears would suffice, but now i'm not so sure. we have 3 computers in the house but ony 1 connection, so while someone could watch tv on the computer someone can't be surfing the net at the same time. I fear we are going to have some fussing over who gets computer time till we get this straightened out. I'm wondering if we need a different box, or that booster that was mentioned and/or the roof top antenna. Too confusing, and suddenly tv is no longer free no that we've got to purchase things beyond normal to watch it. We are really old school, old tv, vcr tapes mostly.

Both of my DDs have rabbit ears on their TVs and the box actually works great with them. DD17 really never got much of a picture and only 2 channels really came in clear. Her picture has improved tremendously. Clear as a bell now and gets the extra channels.
I will admit though the first time around I had something hooked up wrong or something or another
but a few months later when I did the second one, I figured it out and they both work great now. Guess I should have read the directions the first time around....

I'm ready. after two years with the convertor box and rabbit ears, i hit $10,000 in the emergency fund, and got the cable turned back on. yup, I'm ready!
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Oh garbo. I forgot. We have cable but that means my mom and dad will drive us nuts until my husband goes over and fixes it for them.
