    Default Worried about our dog...

We have a 12 yr. old standard poodle...

and she seems to be in pain. I think it is her neck. She was hit by a car when she was 2 yrs old and being cared for by my Mil when we were away. She wasn't seriously hurt. Just bruised and she had hurt her neck. Twice since she had hurt it rough housing but it always was better after a few days.

But she has been favouring it for about a week now and we were camping this weekend and she stopped eating entirely... (she has always been a picky eater but when she refuses her favourite treat I really worry!), just drinking water...
The reason why I think it is her neck is because of she lies down and gets up sooo carefully.

We see the vet today at noon, but my favourite vet isn't available...
I hope it isn't anything more than a few painkillers could cure...

Please think about us... we are all worried.

One of my dogs have been limping in her back leg so I took her to the vet and got some pain meds for her and I have also been giving her a glucosamine chondroitin joint suppliment. She seemed to get better after a couple of weeks. Hope your dog gets better too.

Our pld dog is on rimadyl for arthritis. We used to use chondrotin/glucosamine but it wasn't enough anymore so she gets one of each or sometmes 2 rimadyl if it's winter. I'm sure an xray will tell you more. Good luck.

    It doesn't look good...
in additon to favouring her neck she is running a high fever. I had to leave her with the vet. They are running tests and put her on an IV to administer antibiotics, fluid and pain relievers. My children are all very upset. So am I. The vet says she is very sick and at her age it could be serious. We are all very worried.

I use Glycoflex III for my dog, it seems to work pretty well for him. Vetri-Science makes it, in case you were not aware of it. My vet sold me the first bag, it ended at that, now I get it online. It is not inexpensive but it helps him. It might be worth looking into. I did use Rimadyl a little bit when he first started having problems but now he hardly ever seems to be in a lot of pain. He does sit down slowly but he's 11. The Glycoflex comes in tablets as well as chewables but he didn't like the tablets by themselves. The chewables can be a challenge sometimes too but I mostly mix them with the food now.

    The ingredients are here:

We had a heart wrenching call that she may not make it through the night! She had a bought of bloody diarrhea. Turns out she has whipworm and was going into shock (she had had no diarrhea till then), but it may be a secondary thing to something more serious. We rushed to her side. She seemed unresponsive. We hugged and stroked her and kissed her goodbye. And as we were leaving she perked right up and astounded the two vets as she tried to get up and follow us. We rushed back to her and petted her. And told her we would see her tomorrow. The vets said they would give her more of everything (antibiotics etc). The blood work will be back tomorrow, so we will know then what we are really dealing with.

I am in a bit of shock, I took her in thinking she had a painful neck, and now she may not live till tomorrow.

The kids, Dh and I have all been crying.
