return to recovery
Well hi again, all, I hope someone remembers me. When I first found frugalvillage and began worshiping at the alter of Dave Ramsey last year, I would refer to this board as my rehab. We were doing well with our debt paying and living lean. Of course like most addicts I took a nice fall off the wagon and DH tumbled with me. I drifted away from the village, stopped watching Dave and went back to my old ways. It was a downright spending binge. There was even a vacation. And then an anniversary weekend away. We weren't always paying cash for everything. We erased much of our progress.
And so I return, tail between my legs, licking my self inflicted wounds and looking for home. This morning my hubby lost his main job. He has a freelancing business on the side that I help with, so we aren't altogether destitute at least. Plus he has several years experience freelancing full time. And now he's got two years of a director level title under his belt, with what you would call "mad skillz" :p and a good rep to boot so hopefully we'll be able to recover quickly, whether through expanding our biz or him finding another job. But this was slightly over 2/3 of our income. Despite the economy, we weren't expecting this (stupid, I know, but we really thought he was safe) and we are scrambling (so is the firm owner. They lost their two biggest clients yesterday and had to let half of the company go. I feel as bad for the owner as I do for us, it's sad to see yet another small, young, promising business falling because of the economy.) But I'm worried, mostly about covering my health care. I'm a mess and on tons of meds. The whole reason he took the job to begin with was for the insurance.
I need to tighten the belt and try to remember that this place goes a long way in my "recovery". Oh, friendly frugal villagers, I beg, will you help reform this wayward fool once more?

wondering where you were...!
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Welcome back on the wagon. I took a few months off from the village as well and I am seeing that the support of the Village does make a difference. I'm sorry to hear about your DH's loss of income but you have a lot of knowledge and skills at your finger tips to make things a little easier along this bumpy patch.
